It's refreshing to visit a forum who's members use correct spelling and grammar

This stood out to me the first time I came to Senior Forums.

My mom was a school teacher and was a stickler about correct spelling, grammar and the importance of writing legibly.
She taught us that if we don't take time to do these things, people won't be able to understand us and the results we seek will be diminished by our own hand.

Of course it's only human to make mistakes from time to time but a great deal of posts on other forums are almost unintelligible.

Not something that bothers me, members come from all walks of life with varying levels of education, this by no means detracts from the content, wit or sincerity of posts

So what if the spelling and grammar are not that of an A student ? Should we sit an exam before registering ?

LOL.. everyone else is fine.. when you get to illegibly written posts they'll be mine. I have long nails combined with a keyboard that misses letters, so very often my posts are guesswork for everyone.. :ROFLMAO:
 
I know that the USA is a large country, so I suppose it's not surprising that the standard of education in America is not uniform. I read a great deal...both American and British authors. Some American authors write as well as the British...others are quite abysmal, and I struggle to understand the language used.
This site seems to have attracted people of high intelligence and good education (on the whole). It does make the discussions so much more rewarding. Perhaps those of lower intellect have popped in briefly and realised that they wouldn't fit in. There are others sites which I have joined for a short time but found it all very juvenile and banal.

I was an English major in college and had to do a lot of writing in my jobs, but I do admit to taking grammatical shortcuts in service of fewer keystrokes & posting. I really enjoy communicating with members of other English speaking countries. The different countries & different parts of the same country often use the language differently.

It is a college or university student who has chosen to simultaneously pursue two majors of study. In my case English literature and psychology.
The norm is of course a major and a minor......for example majoring in political science and minoring in history.
Triple majors are possible but such a student would be quite exceptional.

Surely your question is intended to be facetious........
