Sing, Sing, Sing was a big showcase for Benny Goodman, as a way to feature the jungle drumming of Gene Krupa. He always stole the show with it, too. I didn't realize until later years that the piece was written by Louis Prima in 1936, who used it with his own big band in the '30s, featuring clarinetist Pee Wee Russell.
In The Mood was a great dance tune, generally considered to be the best jitterbug song ever. I like the way it was featured in
Cannery Row (1982) in that great scene with Nick Nolte and Debra Winger dancing to it while getting fagged out..
