A man drank himself to death after a drinking contest/56 shots in France trying to make the bar record. Reportedly downed 30 shots in minute. Bar owner now on trial supposedly encouraged him. Heard another report though the bar owner tried to slow him down saying he was drinking to fast. The article summed it up best by saying this was the patron's last call.

He not only drank himself under the table but the ground as well.

You would think a 57 year old would know better. I know this has happened with college kids trying to get into fraternities, but they have the excuse of ignorance and don't realize how dangerous it is.

I've never been a shot guy. Oh, I've had shots but I just don't enjoy them at all. I think by and large it's a "macho" thing. "Look how tough I am"....Gulp....

BINGO!

I've observed that both men & women covet status in a bar which is an extreme social setting. But how messed up is that 50 plus shots is something one desires to hang their hat on.

I'd be curious to find out what this guy's story was or why he let his social life needlessly killed him.

Or is this a Darwin award winner.

If he'd waited an hour or so between shots, he'd probably still be live.

Same way with foodaholics; they glom food down so fast they can hardly waddle out the door.

It's where the expression (wolfing your food). comes from. Wolves being afraid some other animal will steal it away from them before they finish eating it.

Alcohol is basically an anaesthetic. Overdose on any anaesthetic and you don't wake up. QED.

We have laws about responsible sale of alcohol in bars. Bar tenders have to be accredited.
The book would have been thrown at that establishment if it were in Sydney instead of Paris.

The good lord has a way of weedin' out the fools, lol. You play, you pay, he was old enough to know better.

Why do you say that Phil? I don't associate the drinking of shots at a bar as typical of French behavior.

Nope, in France it's wine and lots of it.

Scotland likes to do shots. With such fine Scotch a real whisky lover will sip it straight and savour the flavour, not pour it down his/her throat.
