I'm usually in bed around 10:00 and up by 6:00. In the past year I've discovered that shutting down the computer about an hour before bed, then reading for the last hour before sleep does me a world of good. Right now I'm reading Katy Tur's book, "Unbelievable" about the last presidential campaign. Now that I'm semi-retired, I'm really finding how much I enjoy the freedom to read again. It really does help get me ready to sleep. My next book will be "Shooting Ghosts". The jacket says "A U.S. Marine, A combat Photographer and Their Journey Back From War".
After I retired, I read all the books I was supposed to read in high school but didn't, and a few that my school chums read, like The Hobbit. Then I consumed some Dickens classics, then books that a few favorite movies were based on...still have a few of those to go. House of Wind and Fog was one of the best. I'll read more from that author. I've also read several books whose title grabbed me. I prefer novels to non-fiction. Really like T.C. Boyle's style of telling a yarn; both his short stories and novels; The Cactus Curtain being one of my favorites.
My grandkids are always surprised at how quickly I can get through a book. Sometimes reading makes me sleepy, but too often I'm compelled to stay up and read through to the resolution of a situation, or find out a character's true nature, or untangle a plot twist, etc, to put the book down and go to bed even if I am sleepy.
