Many night-owls among you?

I'm usually in bed around 10:00 and up by 6:00. In the past year I've discovered that shutting down the computer about an hour before bed, then reading for the last hour before sleep does me a world of good. Right now I'm reading Katy Tur's book, "Unbelievable" about the last presidential campaign. Now that I'm semi-retired, I'm really finding how much I enjoy the freedom to read again. It really does help get me ready to sleep. My next book will be "Shooting Ghosts". The jacket says "A U.S. Marine, A combat Photographer and Their Journey Back From War".

After I retired, I read all the books I was supposed to read in high school but didn't, and a few that my school chums read, like The Hobbit. Then I consumed some Dickens classics, then books that a few favorite movies were based on...still have a few of those to go. House of Wind and Fog was one of the best. I'll read more from that author. I've also read several books whose title grabbed me. I prefer novels to non-fiction. Really like T.C. Boyle's style of telling a yarn; both his short stories and novels; The Cactus Curtain being one of my favorites.

My grandkids are always surprised at how quickly I can get through a book. Sometimes reading makes me sleepy, but too often I'm compelled to stay up and read through to the resolution of a situation, or find out a character's true nature, or untangle a plot twist, etc, to put the book down and go to bed even if I am sleepy.

All my life, the best times to sleep was 2AM- 8/9AM. I decided to go to bed at 10PM-8AM to get more healing sleep, at least a year ago. I have never fallen asleep before 12:30. NEVER!! Have you tried to keep from thinking for hour after hour? You think you could train your body to fall asleep at 10, but my body says you ain't doing that.

No matter what time I finally go to bed, if I'm not asleep within 2hrs, I get up. And, often, I'm ready to sleep 2 hours later. But if not, so be it.

You will probably see me poking around the forum late at night now and then, it will be great to have folks to chat with. On the other hand, as we have folks from all over the world here, then. there will be people in and out at all hours.

I frequently have insomnia. But I avoid the computer in the middle of the night, as staring at an electronic screen wakes me up even more. I usually do a crossword puzzle, which makes me sleepy again.

I could be dead tired and falling asleep at 9:45. By 10, I'm wide awake, alert till 12, the earliest. It's like I just woke up from a 10 hour nap. Rearing to go.
