What would you do with the money if you won?


The next drawing will be Friday. The estimated jackpot for that drawing would be the second-largest lottery prize in U.S. history.

The largest lottery jackpot was a $1.6-billion Powerball prize won in January 2016.

The current Mega Millions jackpot has been growing since July, when some California office workers won $543 million.


The odds of winning the jackpot aren't good. The chance of matching all six numbers is 1 in 302.5 million.

I couldn't even envision having that much money and to be honest it would probably terrify me and probably start making me a little bit paranoid about the intentions of others.
 
$868million, the Tax Man would beat you up big time.

I don't play the lottery, but I remember years ago a radio announcer said that "to be a winner you would have to have the one right ticket out of a stack of tickets a mile and a half high". At that time it was for $37million. Those tickets are printed on thin paper. That gives it perspective.
 

I've never bought a lottery ticket in my life,but if a friend gave me a ticket, I was the winner this is what I do.
1.call my financial adviser
2.my lawyer
after we have discussed my options,would give some of the money to the store where the ticket was purchased
I would give most of $ to a favorite charity,rest to my family&close friends
don't answer the phone except for names I recognize Sue
 
I could never imagine winning that much money. If I ever did I would share it with all my family and Donate to Medical research like the cure Cancer Society etc. I would also like to help those who are struggling with finances .
 
I can't imagine why they let a single jackpot get so large.

If I won (unlikely since I don't participate), I'd make sure my family and friends never had to want for anything again.
 
Wellllll, I never think in terms of millions when it comes to the lottery.

However...I usually spend about $200/yr on the lottery and I always win back at least $1,000. Not a bad return. :tongue:

Seems judgemental to make blanket generalizations about how other people choose to spend THEIR time and money. If you're not interested in the lottery why bother to click on the thread? I used to get snacks at a little store downtown, and the clerks said lots of professionals spent lots of money on lottery tickets. Of course they don't admit it to their co-workers...or their online "friends". :laugh:

People get caught up in the talk about what they would do IF they won (millions). The odds are much better for winning lesser amounts - $250k, $50k, $10k, even $1,000 or $100.

I"ve won $1,000 several times and $100 many times - all for a $1 or $2 ticket.

My aunt won $5,000, and a former co-worker won $10,000. For them, buying a lottery ticket was neither a waste of time nor money.

But, buying lottery tickets instead of paying bills... that's another story.
 
Its strictly entertainment and fun. I think of the friends and family I could help and the charities I could donate to. I will buy 2 and its just for the fun of what could be. I am pretty frugal so I will buy one or two. If I am supposed to win, I will. If not, that's okay, just entertainment.
 
I've given up on the Lottery. I used to play but not anymore. The odds are too high, especially with folks all over the world

buying tickets to OUR lottery. The odds are better finding two identical snowflakes.

It's stupid, why not let 100's win a million or so...I would give it all away. Money can't take away my arthritis, I could do it now if there were the case, lottery or not.

I would give to ALL needy groups not the big money hogs who pay their top exec mega bucks.
 
I don't buy tickets either. If I did and won I probably wouldn't live much different than I do now. My first priority would be taking care of family and friends. The charities I would support would be all animal related. For myself it would bring me piece of mind knowing I will not be a burden to others in my final years and I will be able to live a very comfortable life until the end.
 
We always purchase two Powerball, two Lotto America and two Mega's weekly no matter how big or small the pots are.....that comes to $10.00 per week = $40.00 per month = $480.00 yearly.

We fully realize that the odds against us winning are astronomical but somebody always wins and you darn sure can't win unless you play......we enjoy playing and will continue to do so.

Just think how good it would feel actually to win.........

Have you ever won any substantial amounts ($100+)?

The $100 wins are nice, but those $1,000 wins are sweet! :)
