My Apple Tree Got Mowed Down

It looks to me like the first one is going to grow back; but if he is offering you a new one free, I think that you should let him bring you one. Most of the starts from places like Lowes will be several feet tall; so you will also have a larger apple tree as well as the one that you grew from seed. Get some of that bright pink ribbon and tie on the plants you are concerned about, and that will help the lawn people to be able to see them. Or some sort of lawn ornament that is a couple of feet tall will work, too if you do not like the ribbons.
I put out those little solar lights around short plants so that my husband will see the lawn ornament and not mow over them.

Maybe it was as someone said - it might have been a victim of the weed wacker. I can't explain it other that it was there before the lawn was mowed; it was gone afterwards.
I wasn’t suggesting you were lying. I think I’m suggesting that it might have been intentionally done by the girlfriend. Even with grass being long, I doubt it was so long and thick that those reddish brown looking bricks couldn’t be seen. It looks as though the grass and apple tree were done with a weed wacker.

The grass around those bricks looks too precise to be done with a lawn mower. If a riding lawn mower were to cut down that apple tree, the cut would have been more clean, in my opinion. I think it’s all been done with a weed wacker which would make it INTENTIONAL. Add the fact that the girlfriend is there doing the work instead of the man you hired AND she is walking away from the job with a big smile on her face. I doubt she loves the job that much.

I’d say that the guy you hired complained about you to his girlfriend who offered to take care of this customer ( you ) so he wouldn’t have to.

Personally I think you should purchase a lawn tracker and do it yourself. I’m sure you could find one at a decent enough price and I think you’d find that it’s not all that difficult and actually quite fun. Then you wouldn’t have to deal with all this business nonsense and incompetence from others who don’t care about your lawn like you do.

I've been looking for a mower, but there are so may options these days, I can't make up my mind which would be best for me.

That’s a great idea. Why not post a question asking about lawn mowers? There are a lot of knowledgeable members here whom I’m sure would be willing to help you pick one that suites you . They can also give you tips on maintenance and how to care for it.

I think you’ll like mowing your property. There’s a certain satisfaction you get from doing it yourself and you’ll save yourself the hassle of incompetent contractors.

Sorry about your tree. I know how it hurts to have someone just mow down something you cared for. My husband once asked our next door neighbor to weed whack our lawn. Stupid guy cut my perennial garden down to the dirt. I had been caring for that a couple of years and it was getting really nice. I've never been able to get it back again either. Then the dope went around and did the same to my ground covers. I wanted to kill that guy. My husband chuckled about it. I slammed cabinet doors pretending it was my husband's head. Anyway, nobody ever touched my lawn again. Yes, it became my lawn. I still think the guy was just being an a**, but he claimed he didn't know. He asks me now if he can cut down a tree or put up a building in his yard. It's his yard why would I care? Damn Pennsyltucky jerk.

I've sent inquiries through Angi and Home Advisor to several local lawn services. None have replied. Calling doesn't work, either: "Leave a message and we'll get back to you shortly." If 10 days is shortly, I guess their definition is different than mine.

A previous of mine . I'm certain Deb has me on ignore so it doesn't matter.

"How about we back up a little. In another thread Deb was having a hard time getting someone to cut the grass. She was thinking about doing it herself. Then she had to be convinced the amount she would pay was fair considering how often the grass would need mowing.

Now go back to the pics of the tree when it was about 2ft. tall. The area looked brown & dried out. Pic of the tree after it was cut the area looks healthy. The remaining portion looks like it will regrow.

So if she asks for another tree to be bought & planted by the lawn guy. What is more likely he will destroy the new tree & the old one that is reviving. Or make sure great care is taken from now forward.

One action. She gets another tree, keeps a lawn guy that will pay attention & can watch her original tree regrow.

Another action not be understanding, fire the lawn guy after requesting a new tree.

Which serves her best?"

I haven't "officially" fired my lawn guy yet. I am trying to find another lawn service before I do. I've sent requests to two other local companies, but haven't heard back from either. Maybe their schedules are filled, or they don't check their emails.

That's a determined little tree deb! ā™„ļø
It should be after all the care I lavished on it over 2 winters.

I am still wondering what happened to the part that was cut off. No evidence of pieces of it on the lawn, and if it was done with the trimmer, she took it someplace, so was aware of what she did. No one immediately fessed up, though, until I brought it to the lawn guy's attention the next day that I noticed.

Sadly, people don't own up to what they do, if they do notice it. I would even if I knew the person may be upset.

The $h*%! movers who moved my stuff when I sold the house did this to my china cabinet. I wish that had reported it and given me the splinter. I could have glued it back. They were crooks however and stole boxes from me.

When I moved into my new house, I hired what I thought was a certain company. When the van arrived, 2 hours over the expected time, there was another moving company's name on the van. I asked about it and one of the movers said that the company I hired often contracted jobs out to them. Well, it was like having The Three Stooges as movers - the broke an ornate plant stand and left it around the corner of the porch at the old house, probably hoping I wouldn't see it. They also lost 2 shelves to a bookcase and put a gouge in the side of the refrigerator.

This is the plant stand. I had a friend from church repair it. He said it was like putting a jigsaw puzzle together.

That’s a nice repair job. It’s too bad they didn’t stain it or at least add a finish to it.
It’s a nice solid stand.

That is too bad. Maybe see if you can nurse this one back as it is your own project that you put a lot of time in. I know how you feel - my garden plants become almost like kids in that I am daily checking them, watering them, removing bugs, and protecting them from digging cats and nibbling rabbits.

But take the replacement as well as it will be a tame tree grafted to wild root stock, which makes it a better tree than one grown from seed.
