Nancy Guthrie's abduction on the news every day

Why?

I don't mean to sound insensitive. It is a tragedy that she was kidnapped from her home and I hope, although I doubt, that she is okay.

What bothers me is that it is a news segment every day with "little clues" without any real information. It's like people are obsessed with this case and are hanging on every little bit of evidence that is disclosed. The news seems to think these little nuggets will draw viewers.

I record the news and fast-forward through this story every day. If something is revealed that is substantial I'm happy to watch it. How many seniors go missing each day, many due to dementia, who never make news stories?

I'm disgusted with mainstream media for sensationalizing this story.
At first I was caught up in it like the OJ Simpson case. After a while with no new leads you become desensitized to it. I pretty much scan the headlines and sub titles now unless something of importance comes up. I do hope they find her and is safe, but it's doubtful.

There are an estimated 100-300 non-family abductions in the USA each year. Using the lower number of 100 that is about 8.5 a month. So this is one of about 15 kidnappings so far this year if January and February are average.

There are hundreds of thousands of ‘family’ abductions each year. Usually these involved custody disputes between parents. But, actual kidnapping of a stranger to get money or whatever is rare.

It does seem to be getting a lot of attention. I would imagine the media is thinking this is helpful to the case (while aiding their bottom line), but I think it has been harmful to any chance of her return... unharmed, imho.

With all leads slowly going away, they are going to have a Cold Case mystery. .. and it will leave the headlines.
But there are always people who will continue to dig for information. … "48 Hours"
I'm afraid it's going to turn in to a cold case too. Nothing they been doing or researching has been panning out.
Sad situation all the way around, especially the not knowing part.

I commented quite a few posts ago that I am in the camp that Nancy Guthrie did not survived the first few hours and I am Standing by my thought it was a robbery gone wrong.

I know who Savannah Guthrie is. After all of this, I honestly don’t look for her to return to her job at NBC’s “Today” show. I look for her to either be gone permanently from any sort of TV or perhaps return much later, hosting a criminal ID show.

IMO, all of this is too much for any human being to tolerate, then be expected to go back to her regular job as if nothing has happened. She will have to put up with ignorant questions for the rest of her life.

Hoda Kotbe came back to “Today” to fill in for Savannah. She can’t hide the stress she is dealing with for her good friend. I see it on her face, even when she pastes on a smile….

Much of what we hear is not a clue, but speculative talking as tv personalities try to support their need for ratings. Since you fast forward it shouldn't present an issue for you.

I like to check the updates on it each day, hoping she's found alive, or at least hoping they find a body so the family can have closure, and of course catch the criminals.

The attention of the media is always very pick-and-choose and I don't see how it could be any other way when so many crimes and accidents are one of many.

I sincerely hope she finally comes home to her family, sooner the better. I certainly wouldn't complain about the topic coming up daily in the news. That's why we have freedom to use our remote. I think the mute button is great.

Are there two separate threads going about this 'abuction' here ?? and is that necessary?? SF VIP's can this be clarified and cleared??
There was a thread covering the latest news and my thread about how tired I am of it. In my view, they are two separate topics, and if I want to start another thread I don't think any SF VIP will shut it down. Being the SF "police" is never a good look. ;)
