Newsweek reports United States is the 2nd most hated country in the world

Actually I'm not surprised by this. Europeans, especially those who have never been to the US, have a comic book view of the way things are here. They think everyone is obese, money-obsessed, and living on fast food. A broken leg means bankruptcy because we have no health care. Fundamentalists rule. There are school shootings every day.

It takes a lot of money and time to travel to the US from Europe, so not many people come here to see what it's like for themselves. Plus these stereotypes have some truth behind them.

The Chinese are circulating a video of Americans working on an auto assembly line -- all of them obese and falling asleep on the job. So they are doing all they can to foster a dislike of the US.

I believe that sometimes some Americans believe that they live in Gods only country ; they want the best and expect the best. But this may be a message propagated by successive govts too. However America has also been a country of successive waves of new immigrants that have worked hard and proved the point.

But successive wars have come and gone and now the world is widely at ill-ease - there are waves of discontent and all successful countries can be challenged by this and need I believe to tread cautiously be generous to others when they can but also care for their own?

Do you have a reliable resource for this accusation? I would love to find out how it came to be. Where did you find this info? It seems hard to believe. This might be fake news.?

I like the poetry here. :) Thanks, it fits nicely. :)

Just checking in. I see we've moved on to the Civil War.

Yep, I check in often myself, mostly for the entertainment factor. We have gone from healthcare stats to firearm laws, and even detoured into cat couture. …Wait, no, not cats. I keep getting this thread and the 'Cattitude' thread that I look at mixed up for some reason.

Anyway, now we have apparently entered the Civil War. Figuratively, that is. Actually, now I think about it, possibly even literally. We are already into the slave trade -- it’s like a history lesson gone spectacularly off the rails.

At this rate, someone is bound to bring up the War of 1812 any time soon. Probably due to their own irritation of the lack of maritime rights or an Emotional Support History Book. I can already hear the comeback: something about the US simultaneously declaring war on Britain and Canada, and kicking things off by US actually invading Canada – July 1812.

Someone has even put a scoreboard up in their own home of personal insults. I’m just waiting for someone to start tallying passive-aggressive comments; aggressive and rude comments, and a list of “What on earth are you talking about?”, comments. Along with a tally of "What relevance is that?", comments. All because of a Newsweek report.

We have you @Dave03 , giving us a running commentary. Yes! Get in! :)

We may be on page 21 of this thread, but honestly, I don’t think it’s even gotten started yet. Buckle up, the sky’s the limit!
