Homeowners association orders a $100 fine if the Faison family leaves the cross standing.

I will never understand the small-mindedness attached to such, Gaer. This isn't HOA, but when I lived in Big Bear, CA, there was a COMMITTEE trying to ban colored Christmas lights downtown. ( businesses could only display white lights) and any pictures or displays of SANTA CLAUSE or reindeer were banned.
BUT
In Alaska, the most beautiful mansion could be right next to a dumpy old rusted fisherman's trailer (with junk all over his yard.)
People's vision didn't go beyond their fence line!
Different folk!
That's how it strikes me, too.To me, the cross looks more like a memorial to someone who died than a Christmas symbol.
But I'm not religious, so.......what do I know.
I don't find any of it funny, I just find it childish.I don't understand the cross symbol at Christmas. Christmas the celebration of the birth of Christ, not his death. But banning it is ridiculous.
HOA's can be good in some ways. Read the rules before you move in. If they re reasonable, they make for a more pleasant and safer neighborhood. If they're too controlling or not for you, go elsewhere
I think Gaer stated Santa and reindeer were banned in downtown Big Bear as were colored lights. I think they were going for a uniform decorative look with the lights.
Some people still get upset over portrayal of the Nativity scenes on public property. So others countered with- hey, I don't believe in Santa Claus, so why is his face all over town? It's funny when you think about it.
Well, that too. But I like to lean toward finding some humor.I don't find any of it funny, I just find it childish.
I can appreciate that, RR.Well, that too. But I like to lean toward finding some humor.
It is more of an Easter symbol IMO.To me, the cross looks more like a memorial to someone who died than a Christmas symbol.
But I'm not religious, so.......what do I know.
There are some in every HOA neighborhood. That's why hubby and I steered clear.Sounds like a bunch of prickly prudes to me.
either or... what's the difference? What's the point of having a huge cross on the side of his house? Does he want everyone to know how religious he is? Why not just hang a sign that says, "I'M RELIGIOUS!!!"
