Notes from Pappy's diary

Well, our dishwasher bit the bullet today. My handyman is picking up a new one and will install it soon. These unexpected bills raise hell with our budget but I do keep a separate bank account for just such emergencies.

Had my hearing aid appointment at the VA today. I will be getting new ones in June. The assistant cleaned and reset my old ones which has helped a lot. VA allows new pair every three years.

Temperature got up to 83 today. Glad I was able to get out and enjoy it. Thelma stayed home as she was up a lot last night. Didn’t feel good.

Went out to take a ride on my golf cart and the back tire is flat. More expense as I’ll need to call my cart man to come over and bring me a new tire.

Went to Lowe’s today and bought a new dishwasher. Was on sale with $200 off. My new handyman said he will pick it up Monday and install it.
Absolutely beautiful here today. 78 degrees and sunny with a nice breeze. DST messed me up this morning. Usually get up at 5:30 and guess what? Almost 6:30 because I didn’t set the clocks ahead.🤨

No doctors appointments the week. A reprieve for sure but it won’t last. Not sure if I mentioned this before, but my wonderful children have a house cleaner coming every other week. Theresa was here last Saturday and did a fantastic job.

It’s been cool here last couple of mornings so I turned on my Amish made heater to take out the chill.

My go to guy will be here today to install our new dishwasher. Not happy with the Samsung we had, so going with Hotpoint this time. Made by Whirlpool.

Thelma and I went to Tastee Freeze for lunch. Hot dogs and thick milkshakes. I get my hot dog smothered with melted cheese. So good. 🙂 Thelma likes mustard and sourkraut on hers. It’s about a 15 minute drive up US 1 from our place.

Thelma’s knee is getting worst. She says it feels like bone on bone but feels she is too old to go through operation and therapy. Trying to find something mobile or something to help her. We have canes and a nice walker but maybe I’m missing something that could help. Suggestions appreciated.

It’s been a busy and warm here this week. Low 80s most of week, but a cool down on its way Thursday.
Saturday, we went over to check on a used mobility scooter for Thelma. Checked it over real good and it seems to be in good shape, so we bought it. It’s a Merit Pioneer and is three years old. New battery so that is to our advantage. New batteries are very expensive. Picture below.
I may have a chance to get a scooter for me through the VA. I have a doctors appointment April 1st and if he gives the go ahead, i will be able to get a new one.

Hot house tomatoes are in season here and we have been having some everyday. They are just so darn good sliced up or in a salad. Haven’t dared to try Florida corn on the cob yet, still buying frozen from supermarket. I miss two things we had in NY. Gramma Browns baked beans and salt potatoes, and of course fresh home grown sweet corn.

A guy is bringing over the scooter sometime today so I’d better go and get dressed.
You all have a great and blessed day.

She has an appointment this Wednesday. I wouldn’t be surprised if she gets a shot. I hope so.

Took my wife to her knee doctor today and her X-rays show bone on bone in her knee cap. Now she decides if surgery is something she wants to do. It’s a nano type and it can be done as an outpatient. I think she will have it as it is so painful.

Got home and I had a rare boost of energy so I cleaned up my wife’s scooter. Who ever owned it before wasn’t big on keeping it clean. Need to find a basket to fit the brackets that are on the scooter.

I hope Thelma accepts the surgery as an outpatient. I've not heard of it here .. as far as I know everyone here has it done as an in patient.

I was upset that my orothopedist had me do an overnight when I had my hip replacement. There are many doctors here that do it as a day surgery. I think it will depend on her overall health and mobility. This was just my doctors mode of operation. I know I would have rested better in my own bed.

Just keep an open mind, if they give the option, let her decide what is right for her. She will know if the pain is bad and she feels better/safer staying at the hospital that would be the thing to do.

Thanks Blessed. We will keep an open mind and I will always do what’s best for her. 💖
