Oddest Given Name Of Any Of Your Acquaintances

Working on my family tree there are so many strange names. They were common back then. Like Blessings, Charity, Paltiah and others. Some I can't figure out how they sound or what they meant. My nieces have named their children names I cannot even begin to remember. It is like they all want the weirdest name they can come up with. I never liked my middle name.

My GGG Grandfather had a half-brother (same mom) named James McHenry, first name/last name. James was adopted by my GGGG Grandfather, so then took on the family surname. My GGG Grandfather then proceeded to honor his half-brother by naming one of his sons James McHenry, 'McHenry' being the middle name instead of a surname. It took me weeks to sort that one out! It also didn't help that Grandpa was named Reuben, and there was a Reuben in a generation or two on each side of him.

I had a GGG Aunt named 'Dorcas'.
My Grandfather and G Grandfather were both named 'Cyrenus'. (Sigh-ree-nus)

I went to school with someone whose last name was a day of the week. Her parents named her after another day of the week. Ridiculous. I always felt sorry for her. Won't divulge the names here because she might be on this forum!

My middle name is Waite. I believe it to be an old family surname and possibly from Great Britain. It was also my dad's, my grandpa's, and my great grandpa's middle name. It's odd that it doesn't show up in any genealogy traces, perhaps it was on a grandmother's side and the name was lost to marriage, but it would have to have been back at least 6 generations.
Waite is a very common British surname.. means watchman

I'm not sure if I'm crossing the line here, if I am delete as necessary.

A maintenance man that our town had a few years back wasn't good at doing his job, but quite good at patting himself on the back. My wife named him butt plug. A few of our neighbors adopted the moniker for him as well.

I guess that isn't really the given name, sorry.

I keep bumping into young people named Montana, Idaho, Arizona,...it was cool the first time, now it appears parents
look at map of U. S. seeking a name for their children.

To date, names are West of the Mississippi, haven't seen any
anyone named Vermont, Massachusetts:unsure:

Virginia used to be a popular name. From the west, Dakota is common.
eta
Florida-the name of the character on Maude then Good Times.
and Austin, I've seen for boys and girls.

In elementary school, I had a teacher whose first name was Euphemia. She was pretty old, so I imagine the name goes back to Victorian times!

Weird names~grand nephew named Wick, son of friend named Denim, doctor's first name is Haller.
Great aunts named Girthal and Berthal. Both had medical conditions that had them weighing in around 500 pounds each.

I went to school with a boy named Wolfgang. I felt sorry for him cuz in the U.S. it was considered just too weird of a name for a kid in those days. But he didn't mind it a bit and was quite popular so I guess we're more than our names.

My family has old time Armenian names...some I cant even pronounce or spell. My mother gave me her name as my middle name..which I'm happy about. Satenig, it's suppose to be a Princess in Armenia. Or, that's what she told me lol.

I dont have any children, so I will not be passing them down another generation Grandma's name was Hyganoosh.
