That's the part that gets me, Verisure, something as proven as metal detectors being kyboshed all because of hurt feelings.Yeah, but let's face it, who wouldn't rather have their children come in a body bag than in a state of embarrassment, eh?

Aunt Marg; No way to say it better. Our schools in the County in Ind. where I live. When students get in the building, they have to go through two sets of doors, One location. That have cop ?? that looks electronically into anything they are carrying. Once all kids are in all doors are double locked. All windows have been replaced with bulletproof Lexan.I love the idea of more cameras, Mur. In fact, I support the use of more cameras everywhere considering the direction society and our world is going.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the mass school shootings in the past, the perpetrators came into the schools after the fact? So if this be the case, why not have all school entries and exits manned by armed personnel and keep guns out of schools?
Hubby and I are pro gun owners, but even with that said, I wouldn't want my child (regardless of age) exposed to an environment where teachers are parading around with sidearms hanging from their sides. In my view that doesn't reflect a healthy surrounding/atmosphere.
This is so encouraging, Tom!Aunt Marg; No way to say it better. Our schools in the County in Ind. where I live. If I want to go pick up my G.K's I have to push a button on a post. Will be asked why I'm there. I tell them to get G.S. to take to Dentist Appt. An armed officer will come & bring out my G.S. I can't get in the building.
Our High school & graded schools are all connected with special doors in halls that any principal or teacher can push a button to close & no one gets in that small part of either high or grade school. Ever since the first school shooting our school has been upgrading everything it can.
I have read some areas are fortifying doors for instant lockdown purposes. When an active shooter alert goes out a computer seals the new bulletproof doors. Similar measures are being worked out and studied. This question goes out to you, Ohioboy.
Is there anything else you are knowledgeable of related to measures being actively taken or considered at this time related to all of this, outside that of introducing more guns?
School searches absent RS as in the TLO case are unconstitutional. Did they start having searches of an administrative nature in schools somewhere?A number of schools tried that and it resulted in backpack searches and pat-downs. Parents complained their kids were being treated like criminals, so that didn't last long.
Metal Detectors are fine. But all they can do is make a noise when they detect a certain amount of metal. They can't stop a mass shooter from entering & shooting. Do you really think a buzzing sound & flashing lights would change a murderer's mind? What about metal detectors in schools?
Has such been implemented in any schools (States) that anyone is aware of?
Sure, additional staff or personnel would be required to do a check on anyone setting such detectors off, but from the standpoint of school safety, I can't see why metal detectors wouldn't be a step in the right direction.
This is true. I read a few weeks ago that some of the schools in Detroit are so ravaged by heavily-armed thugs from across the Ambassador Bridge that teachers have been issued hand grenades. The practice has been so successful in staving off marauding Ontarians that after summer break most of the schools in Detroit and the surrounding area are expected to follow suit. Bravo! They have finally stopped passing the buck and are using their heads!........................... With 20-30 students in a typical class setting and with the teacher at the front of the class, an armed teacher is going to do sweet nothing in the event an assailant enters such a class from the back door of the room and starts shooting ..................
Wow! The American Constitution is really sumpin', ain't it! Sure, searching bags would be "infringing" on the second amendment. We wouldn't want that! Oh no!School searches absent RS as in the TLO case are unconstitutional. Did they start having searches of an administrative nature in schools somewhere?
Such measures will be "Studied" for a long time. They are costly & that's why they're unlikely to be implemented. That's also why cheap, useless measures are frequently suggested.I have read some areas are fortifying doors for instant lockdown purposes. Exactly, same method to help secure the safety in schools.Metal Detectors are fine. But all they can do is make a noise when they detect a certain amount of metal. They can't stop a mass shooter from entering & shooting. Do you really think a buzzing sound & flashing lights would change a murderer's mind?
That's why at court houses, you walk through a metal detector and there are several armed security personnel also there. If metal detectors were all that was needed, why would they go to the expense of armed security?
About time something was looked at and implemented.Such measures will be "Studied" for a long time. They are costly & that's why they're unlikely to be implemented. That's also why cheap, useless measures are frequently suggested.
$4-$5,000.00/door.
There is the 2nd Amendment but also a fetish for guns. Just a few examples:Regardless of knee-jerk reactions, I hope you understand that (probably a majority of) Americans are not obsessed with guns, but with maintaining their right to own them.
There is the 2nd Amendment but also a fetish for guns. Just a few examples:
When Pres. #44 was in office, there were all these scare tactics by the NRA and rightwing media that he was going to takeaway people's guns. Every time this was promoted, guns sales skyrocketed. People on social media bragged about how many more guns they added to their already well stocked arsenal.
Also, there are some Americans who are basically cowards BUT somehow become instantly brave with the acquisition of a gun(s).
**Even though the US has the most guns per capita and all these people are walking around concealed/open carry, mass shootings have not dropped an iota.
It's taken many years but our school has bulletproof glass (Lexan 1/2" thick) It also has bulletproof doors that can be shut by teachers or principals. We do have one armed guard at the one entrance that looks into every backpack with something like airport security. Our school is proactive & trying everything new out there. Parents are all for it. I just got to remember to "remove" my 9mm before I get to the school to pick up a G. K. They have cameras that look as people get out of their vehicles.About time something was looked at and implemented.
IMO no pilot program is needed.
Get doors like this in place to help protect the kids.
We are insane, storm the White House, Kids to begin notching their gun counting those they've shot,It's taken many years but our school has bulletproof glass (Lexan 1/2" thick) It also has bulletproof doors that can be shut by teachers or principals. I say allow all sorts of weapons to everyone, a kind of free-for-all should ensue whereby every man, woman, and child is put to death and the country can finally be left to the Indians. We can call it "The Hail of Tears".If I was invested in any of our gun manufacturers I'd be delirious with glee, regarding these posts. No longer a gun in every home - - multiple guns for all family members along with loads of ammo for practice shooting and neighborhood battles.
No more name-calling or fist fights. Even the weakest, picked on kid on the playground can blow away the school bully. Who can be against that? Of course the students that lack the skills, even with practice, will blow away half the school yard if they have a high capacity weapon, but again, collateral damage - -who cares. They could even "waste" teachers that treated them unfairly.
Anyone want to name a grade to hand out the guns. 5th or 6th maybe. Just before they reach Jr. High, where the shooting may need a higher degree of skill to survive.
Maybe Kids R' Us will add guns to their inventory. The possibilities for gun sales are limitless, especially if other countries pick up on our gun mania.
Put me down as a "yes" to every kid and teacher being armed.
Verisure wrote - Now that I see that people believe, "more guns helps keep everyone safer, and more guns make for a safer society", then I will no longer participate in this thread. #28
POINT ONE: If "guns don't kill people only the people behind the gun", then by sheer observation and common sense Americans ought to be the last people on earth allowed to own them.Last week on our news a kid killed another kid with a "hammer" So guns don't kill people only the people behind the gun. I guess anything can now be classified as a weapon.
POINT ONE: If "guns don't kill people only the people behind the gun", then by sheer observation and common sense Americans ought to be the last people on earth allowed to own them.
POINT TWO: Your hammer story is Dick & Jane-ish. When Americans start hammer murdering and serial hammering then we can discuss banning hammers in the US. And if we find that a large percentage of Americans follow in the footsteps of Nicky Santoro then we will have to ban ballpoint pens and shoes from the American population too.
BOTTOM LINE: Identify the problem (shootings, not hammers). Find the Solution (fewer guns). Act upon it (make them illegal and enforce it). Gosh! Even Dick & Jane could have figured that out.![]()
