Old cliches that you are sick of

Most cliches are old because they contain a lot of truth, and have held up through lots of repetition over the years.

But some of them are SO stale by now that they just set my teeth on edge, whether true or not. Do you have any old saws that you would not be sorry to have heard for the last time?

Call me old-fashioned, but I just love old clichés and expressions. Never grow tired of them.

I have a friend that uses them all the time, for everything, and she rolls them off her tongue effortlessly. I love it.

So "read between the lines", would you, Sunny! :giggle:

The only old one that comes to mind is "Pull yourself up by your bootstraps," and that's only because it can be so heartless at times.

Honestly, the ones I'm tired of are the new ones from corporate America.
Maybe because they were more of my daily adult life than the ones I heard growing up:

-Reach out
-Reach back
-Take it to the next level
-Think outside the box

Maybe "Run it up the flagpole and see who salutes" is old and is also worn out in business.

Well the new ways of looking at things aren't the best either. I'm sick of hearing about being a team player cuz it's bologna. And I'm a black and white thinker. And I'm tired of people telling me I gotta start thinking in terms of gray. WTH is that? To me that's an excuse to not take any responsibility.

Come on now, Marci... "don't get your knickers in a twist" over the gray thing. :giggle:

You can't believe it when you utter an old, grating cliché, but you do it.
I guess there like puns- which are only funny to the speaker.

Addendum
Yea, what does 'bed out' mean?

LOL! My favorite words ever..."Just calm down." Those 3 little words spoken when I'm angry pretty much push me to the limit.

Is the phrase "a woman's place is in the kitchen" a cliche?

HEY!
Go make me a sammich hot dog.

And when someone says "Be a team player," they really mean "Do what I tell you to do."

And how does a "team player" think in shades of grey??? You're part of the team, not someone of independent thought. How can an entire team consist of people all thinking in shades of grey? Those two things do not belong together.
