Rapes in Scotland Increase

A Typical Case of a misleading title.

It would be more accurate to say that reported rapes increase.

There is a difference. More rapes are now being reported because women are becoming more confident that the police will treat it seriously.

I figured that was the case.

This is a good outcome. Even better will be an increase in convictions.

Yes, there is no advantage to a victim in reporting a rape if the report is not taken seriously.

Look at India at the moment.
The frequency and atrocity of rapes in that country are monstrous yet the police have to be forced to take action.

In UK; women feel that they can report rape more easily than before, and be believed.
i don't think that this applies to a lot of other 'developing' countries.

Vivjen, I have had brave women sit in my office and tell me that they fought back just enough to sustain "believable" injuries, in order to hopefully prevent their rapist from escaping justice. Wow, imagine the courage of these warriors. I salute them. Not victims these.

There certainly seems to be an outpouring of hatred for women and girls in India. Chilling.

I can't help but wonder if it isn't partly the result of gender selection via abortion. I watched a documentary years ago and in some villages there, the ratio of male's to women was so out of balance that many, many men could never hope to marry. Perhaps that coupled with a social bias cultural bias against women who are alive makes them a target for rage and anger?

Maybe they feel more confident to report it as Scotland become one police force for the entire country about a year ago. No more locals. It's all Police Scotland.

Be leery. I lived in areas where the local sheriff as a contractor took over policing duties of many smaller communities and they found many lower level crimes were being ignored partly because in large organizations many people are moved around and have little stake or familiarity in the communities where they work. I think the danger will come when they want or have to expand the police force.

In these cases of rape for example someone from an area with less rape crime or different attitudes might not have the same attitude or motivation to aggressively investigate. You don't need to hire a cop living next store but they should have familiarity with the community or a thorough/set procedure to do such.

Things are done differently here. They don't contract out police. And we don't have so many levels of law enforcement like sheriff, city police, state police, etc etc. It's just Police. Local police became Police Scotland.
