Reflections of My Life

Since my neighbor moved out, I can keep my television on as long as I want. He never complained or even mentioned it to me. Of course, he had his own also and I never heard it. Ever since I moved in I have always been aware of not making any sounds until he was up. I didn't want any trouble that I was noisy. I am not a noisy person but sometimes I listen to music, use an appliance or watch shows that have music on. When a show has music on it, I have always turned it down while the music is on.

I will be getting three new neighbors in the future. Even though they say there is a long waiting list to move in here, it takes them months to rent them out. I think Dottie who lived across the hall died back in August or somewhere around that. Our maintenance man just put new appliances in there.
Sometimes I go downstairs to check my mail or go outside to the dumpster and I do not see one other person. It is pretty quiet here most of the time.

As much as I loved living in the country, in the middle of the forest really, I adapted to this city life. I think I was so secluded there, near the end of my time there I had not left in many months. Not even to go to the store so moving here within walking distance of stores and restaurants was a plus. I could be independent but only in nice weather. I don't like to take my mobility chair out when the streets are wet or slushy.

I am trying to work on my independence more right now. You have to be independent in your home to be able to live out the rest of your life there. I am working on making things easier..........simple and less work is the focus. Not dependent on someone else to do things for you (such as Sonny). I am also trying to reach out more to friends and my cousins (who live nearby) to see them and not be so isolated. Some social interactions are good for me even though I can go for months without seeing anyone other than my neighbor friends.

Hah hah, city life! (((kat)))

My new aide just left. Her name is Joyce. She cleaned my bathroom, vacuumed, washed my dishes, got my mail and took my garbage out. She had to move her car because of the snowplow. Other than calling in on Monday, she seems to be good. She told me to write out a list for her for tomorrow. Working on it right now.

I did not want to say too much to her about her boyfriend.........but I think he is one of the scammers on fakebook. He is in the Army in Lebanon and she met him on fakebook. After I get to know her better I will mention to her about those guys on fakebook. He texts her quite a bit so she had to shut her phone off while she was here.

Sounds good, Kat. I hope she continues. I also hope she's not being scammed!

Second morning in a row of waking up at 2:00 AM instead of 3. Not sure why but when I wake up that means I am up. Rabbit was so happy I got up that I ended up turning the coffee on. I am awake though, not sleepy. With my aide coming back today, getting up earlier helps me in that I still have my time alone. Not sure I am comfortable with having someone here for more than two hours so I have her scheduled for only two right now. Maybe as I get to know her better (if she stays that long) I can add more time. Right now I have some work she can do, catching up on things I could not do myself.

@Supernatural, I am sorry you went through all this! I also am a widow, so I can relate. Just so you know, this is @katlupe's diary. You might consider doing a diary thread of your own. Just an idea. I also started one of my own.
Hi @katlupe /@palides2021, thanks for the support, very much appreciated. I'll be including these titbits in my stories, The Elysium Series. It's currently on many places but I'm not in the mood just now to gather all of it and record it in the proper order 😂.

Just a bit extra sad this week as the 17 March is coming up and it's our Meet&Greet anniversary back to 1984. Also, received email from old work colleague who let me know the coworkers that passed away. One Austrian, introduced us at the time, to events with an Austrian Community due to my love of Empress Elizabeth of Austria.

Another, a lovely German native, which I did loads of translation work in 3 languages, died in a plane crash, he was a pilot of a light aircraft. I didn't know.

Finally, my boss passed away too. As I've mentioned sad week.

However, I'm looking forward to a delivery Saturday of new curtains for front hallway. Lovely pattern chosen by daughter. So excited that she would do such a nice thing, I've bought her two pairs of funky leggings lol.

My aide, Joyce was here today. She cleaned my kitchen and did a good job. Monday is her next day. I like her so far. She has a friendly sort of personality.

After she left I spent most of the day reading and proofreading my story I have been writing. So far I have 356 pages but who is counting? I will probably never print it out so it will just live in my computer. I think my story is good and I am enjoying working on it. I started it in 2010 and hadn't touched it till last August I think. Now I can't stop.

I made shrimp and button mushrooms for supper tonight. In a butter sauce. It was pretty good.

I am really enjoying my coffee frother I recently bought. I normally use only heavy cream in my coffee and it froths up very nicely. Something about it I like.

I must say that my apartment looks so nice.............and clean this morning. My aide did a really good job the last two days. The cupboard doors were in such need of cleaning. I tried but my shoulders hurt if I raise my arms up. Then they hurt for a few days afterwards.

Today my biggest goal is going to be making an appointment with my oral surgeon. The last appointment I had I was forced to cancel due to the elevator being broken down. So I will try again. Need to get this over with so I can move on.

One worry I was having was that there are now three apartments around me for rent. I want new tenants to move in but I was afraid of them being smokers. Cigarette smoke is something that really affects me and my ability to breathe. Suffering from Multiple Chemical Sensitivities causes me to have reactions to certain smells.......chemicals, household cleaning products, perfumes, etc. Smoke from cigarettes or cigars is a big one. Sometimes I can use a certain product and it doesn't affect me (even if it has a strong odor) for years, then one day I use it and wham.....makes me physically sick for days. PineSol did that. I had to give my supply of it away to Sonny.

Now to get back to what I was saying about the apartments. The acting manager put a notice out on our doors the day before yesterday in regard to smoking. We have a few tenants who have become lax in their attention to where they are smoking. You are supposed to leave the property to smoke and they don't. A new guy moved in downstairs and the other day I smelled smoke in the hall when I went down for my mail. My friend lives across from him and I am sure she smelled it too. You can be evicted for someone reporting you for smoking or even if you have a visitor that is smoking. Now I don't normally like so many rules since this is our home, but this affects me big time. Plus you see those nasty cigarette butts all over the yard, sidewalk, ramp and parking lot. It is littering but for some reason no one thinks of it as such.

Here , people get heavy fines if caught dropping cigarette butts outside.. It's a horrible thing to see all over the place. I haven't seen it for years , but sometimes if I go past a rundown area I can see cigarette butts outside pubs all over the pavement

I would love it if they got fines for it here. Our parks (in Norwich only that I know of) have signs telling you not to drop your butts on the ground. They have places to put them. But there are butts all over anyway. Every so often, volunteers go through the park and pick them up.

Glad you're happy with your aide! I know I need some help around here, maybe good stories from you will inspire me to one day get some help too.
You should. Due to your location you would probably not have any trouble getting one. This is a small city, but more like a small town than a city. But they call it a city. So not a lot of people to fill the jobs.

I took the day off. A lazy day. I colored a picture in my coloring book. I have a pile of books and have promised myself that I will not buy even one more no matter what until I have used these up. Adult coloring really relieves stress. I am also not buying any more gel pens till I have run out of colors. I put the empties in a big ziploc bag and it is packed full. I usually buy the refills only, so when I use up all the colors, I will order more. But not till they are all gone. So I am coloring things whatever color I have even if it is not the color of what it would be in real life. Besides it is not real life, it is in my coloring book.
