Reflections of My Life

I have been watching the television show, Dynasty, which was a show I watched when it was on television. It was one of my favorite shows. The thing is now I am noticing things I never thought about before. Right off, I love the clothing, the hair and the jewelry. Plus the cars and the houses. But.......do rich people really drink that much? Almost every scene shows people drinking alcoholic beverages. In one scene in a bar, Alexis (Joan Collins) did order a Virgin Mary.

Alexis smokes cigarettes through her scenes and one time she ground out her cigarette in her plate of food that she didn't finish. How disgusting is that??? Every office has its own bar set up and they automatically offer a drink to whoever. Some of the characters go to the bar and help themselves to a drink. Now I am not a prude or anything. I even worked as a bartender in my past life. But I just can't picture that being realistic. As soon as someone gets home they have to have another drink (after drinking all day at the office) and of course drinks after dinner and brandy before bed.

I think it reflects an "era". When I was a kid, I remember that every day my Mom would have a "cocktail 🍸" waiting for my Dad when he came home from work. Back then, everyone smoked, too. People had ashtrays in every room in their houses.

Times sure have changed!

Well it seems those people must have had a bad drinking problem if they drank as much as they do on Dynasty. I didn't grow up with it at all.

Now that I can see outside it is snowing pretty hard. A good day to get some of my projects done. I have things to put downstairs in my storage locker. And some things to put on the "Free" table in the puzzle room. My plan is to continue cleaning out my storage locker so I can organize it more wisely. I have stuff in there I don't even know why I kept. Sentimental about some things.

I have a couple more food preps to do today that I didn't get to yesterday. The breakfast sausage and the cucumber salad. Then I should be set for a couple of weeks at least. Quick but good meals. I do not have a microwave but I have a mini oven that I can put a frozen food in and plug it in. It will heat or cook whatever depending on what it is in an hour or so. Don't even have to take it out of the storage container. Don't want to spend a lot of time standing in the kitchen today. A good day to watch Dynasty and drink coffee.

Hunker down, Kat... and enjoy being home in the warm and dry

Although I have never watched Dynasty, I am sure you are right.

I grew up in the "Blue Collar" version of what you are talking about. My Dad liked it "entertain" ( parties), so he put paneling up in the basement, and furnished it. He also put in a fully stocked wet bar. My parents probably entertained every other month or so.

Also, every Fri was bowling night. Drinking and smoking the whole time! Even when my Dad wad promoted to a "white collar" job, the only thing that changed was the location. Drinking and smoking continued, but in the Club House at the golf course!

No one ever said "The A Word" in our household, so I was an adult when I realized that my Dad was an alcoholic, as were just about everyone he knew.

It's sad to think back on, but the era that you have described in Dynasty really did exist!

Two of the guys who live downstairs shoveled a path from the ramp to the dumpster. Then cleaned off the ramp. Glad they were here and could do that. But I didn't go outside. I will have to go out tomorrow to the dumpster. I have no idea why the guy who does our snow removal did not come back to clean up the ramp. He usually comes several times a day when it is snowing like this.

Before I moved here in 2018, there used to be a room downstairs with the garbage cans and recycling containers. Instead of having to take your garbage outside to the dumpster the tenants put it in that room. Then the maintenance man emptied it daily. Somewhere along the way, they changed it to the outside dumpster. In winter especially, it is not an easy job. It seems to me this building has made things easier for the employees first, tenants second.

For one thing the dumpster has a lid on it that is heavy when there is snow on it. It is not easy to wipe off to get it open. I know. I have done it many times. That is the reason some people will just lean their garbage against the dumpster instead of putting it inside. Another problem with the dumpster is that it is high and you have to reach up high to get your bag in. It hurts my shoulders but I have developed a method of doing it that works for me. It is too high for some people.

Snow or not, today I have to walk out to the dumpster with 2 bags. There was too much snow yesterday for me to walk out there. Today I can do it.

I did walk out to the dumpster this morning, I had two bags and had to get it out of my apartment. I normally take it out daily. The snow had melted a bit as you can see here. This is the back of the building. My apartment is on the back side of the building. I like it here because it much quieter and I do not hear the traffic on our street.

I don't want to be rude but some of the best actors and singers were alcoholics, so to me nothing wrong with it.

My parents had "parties" too and I miss this kind of company. Sometimes our living room was thick of smoke. I don't smoke, drink alcohol only every now and then (only beer but no other stuff) and am a very boring person.

That dumpster should have sliding side doors, one on each side, so people don't have to reach. Petition the garbage co. for the type w/ sliding side doors. Hope that works!

I didn't say anything was wrong with it. Just an observation about how much they portrayed drinking and smoking on a fictional television show. As someone who has watched a number of people in my life who died too young from both, smoking and drinking. People still dying from it.

Today I have been taking some of my older photos and making memes I can use on my timeline on fb. It has been fun because I have tons of photos that I never look at anymore. I love looking at my bunny boy's pictures from when I first got him. My cats and horses too.

Snow turned to rain this afternoon and it was quite windy. I didn't go out to the dumpster or even left my apartment. I got all my housework done early so was able to have an early supper too. I just finished watching my friend's videos on her fb page. She posts about 5 videos a day and I try to watch them all and comment on them. So that is all done too.

I think I will catch up on my keto YT channels. Got behind on them because I was watching Dynasty. Now I am on season 5 and the story line is not as good as it was in the beginning. Plus actors are leaving and new ones coming on and that ruins the story too. I might not finish the whole series.

I decided not to subscribe to the Walmart delivery thing. I can go there on the bus if I need to. But the things I buy at Walmart I need to pick out in person.........spring mix and meat. Plus, I do not want to pay for the subscription....$98.+ tax. If I ever decide to do it I can at another time.

It has been raining all afternoon and evening. I was talking to Sonny on the phone and his power went out. Very windy, I can hear it. Where I live it should be okay though. Downtown. Sonny is way out in the country. There is a flood alert for the whole area.
Poor Sonny. CT is under the same conditions. I hope he can stay warm till the power comes back. Good luck to you too.

I agree!

I hope I didn't come across as being judgemental!! I was only describing my personal experiences while growing up in the same era that Dynasty took place in.
