School shooting in Madison, WI

It seems as though, when someone has a problem, they deal with it by taking it out on other people. This incident was probably sparked off by something quite trivial which the perpetrator hadn't be helped to deal with.
There is definitely something wrong with Western society, and environmental pollution is part of the cause.
 

Let's just face the truth. Child to Adult, adult to death just a bunch of evil bastards & bitches! There you know how to fix it. Sure Sex / Gender doesn't matter.

There is no understanding the human mind, just what it does or says it will do. Writting it down as a manifesto is one way to understand why it did what it did, no excuses for it. it did it.

The difference in justice is how many lawyers can you have on staff. Prolong it until the thing dies all by itself because of the system of loop holes.

We all had bad days when we were 15. Days when our feelings were hurt and we thought we were never going to have friends and the kids we liked made fun of us. We went home and cried. If we were prone to anger, rather than tears, we might have trashed our room or torn up our boyfriend's picture.

It never occurred to us to take a gun to school and shoot them all, because school shootings were never heard of then. Sure a few had happened but neither TV nor teachers talked about them.

This little girl knew all about school shootings and she knew where to get a gun.

What makes you so sure that it was something trivial that set this off?
I reckon that you might be a bit dismissive and quick off the mark, how about we wait and see what transpires.
My guess is that there may well be a history of prolonged bullying behind this.
 
I used to live in Madison. My son was born there. News really bothered me. Felt better was a Christian school, not a public school. My mind flew to my son as vic, even though he's 44 now. When I realized I never would have put him in Christian school I felt better. Nothing to do with reality, just connected to Madison.

Police, who identified Rupnow as the shooter on Monday are still investing the motive behind her rampage. Officers raided the family's home and are sifting through a manifesto that she may have left behind.

The details come amid online speculation over Rupnow's gender identity after Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes sparked fury by claiming that whether or not she is transgender is 'not important at all' to the investigation into the shooting.

Barnes also raised the possibility of Rupnow's parents facing charges, following the imprisonment of James and Jennifer Crumbley earlier this year that opened the door to prosecutions of school shooter parents.

Barnes said at Monday's press conference: 'We also want to look at if the parents may have been negligent. And that’s a question that we’ll have to answer with our district attorney’s office.'

Rupnow was present from the start of the school day on Monday and eventually opened fire on a study hall full of students from various grades, Chief Barnes said.

Investigators believe Rupnow used a 9mm pistol to carry out her attack, a law enforcement official told AP. The official spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the ongoing investigation.

A motive for the shooting was not immediately known, nor was it clear if the victims were targeted, Barnes said during a press conference Monday.
 
At 10:57 a.m., that nightmare became a reality when a second-grade teacher called 911 to report a school shooting, Barnes said. Previously, Barnes had said a second-grade student had called 911 before correcting himself Tuesday.

I read that in Wisconsin you can get in trouble if someone 14 or under gets your gun. She was 15 so I don't think these parents will face charges.

Kids the past 10 years are never wrong, they have 'their truth' (such a ridiculous thing) and we have to accept what they say no matter what. Or the authorities are called. Where are parental rights anymore.
Then you have doctors, committing atrocities on children-surgeries, puberty blockers-when these kids have no mental capacity to make such decisions. Science has proven they don't have the mental capacity to make such decisions. Otherwise society would allow them to vote, drive, buy a house, sign a contract, rent an apartment etc. But almost every country in the world does not allow this until at least 18. Because their mindset just isn't there. Yet somehow now they can decide at 8 years old or 12 years old that they are the opposite sex, are a bunny rabbit, or whatever delusions they have, and all adults including the medical system have to accept that.

Excellent points, Tazx! Until they stop giving school aged children antidepressants, and until we return to teaching children values, standards, morality, and right from wrong, these terrible incidents will keep happening.

The vast majority of mass shootings have been perpetrated by disturbed young people who are on antidepressants. Antidepressants should not be prescribed for anyone under the age of 25. There's plenty of research on that, but Big Pharma gets it suppressed.

948.55 Leaving or storing a loaded firearm within the reach or easy access of a child.
(1) In this section, “child” means a person who has not attained the age of 14 years.
(2) Whoever recklessly stores or leaves a loaded firearm within the reach or easy access of a child is guilty of a Class A misdemeanor if all of the following occur:
(a) A child obtains the firearm without the lawful permission of his or her parent or guardian or the person having charge of the child.
(b) The child under par. (a) discharges the firearm and the discharge causes bodily harm or death to himself, herself or another.
(3) Whoever recklessly stores or leaves a loaded firearm within the reach or easy access of a child is guilty of a Class C misdemeanor if all of the following occur:
(a) A child obtains the firearm without the lawful permission of his or her parent or guardian or the person having charge of the child.
(b) The child under par. (a) possesses or exhibits the firearm in a public place or in violation of s. 941.20.
(4) Subsections (2) and (3) do not apply under any of the following circumstances:
(a) The firearm is stored or left in a securely locked box or container or in a location that a reasonable person would believe to be secure.
(b) The firearm is securely locked with a trigger lock.
(c) The firearm is left on the person’s body or in such proximity to the person’s body that he or she could retrieve it as easily and quickly as if carried on his or her body.
(d) The person is a peace officer or a member of the armed forces or national guard and the child obtains the firearm during or incidental to the performance of the person’s duties. Notwithstanding s. 939.22 (22), for purposes of this paragraph, peace officer does not include a commission warden who is not a state-certified commission warden.
(e) The child obtains the firearm as a result of an illegal entry by any person.
(f) The child gains access to a loaded firearm and uses it in the lawful exercise of a privilege under s. 939.48.
(g) The person who stores or leaves a loaded firearm reasonably believes that a child is not likely to be present where the firearm is stored or left.
(h) The firearm is rendered inoperable by the removal of an essential component of the firing mechanism such as the bolt in a breech-loading firearm.
(5) Subsection (2) does not apply if the bodily harm or death resulted from an accident that occurs while the child is using the firearm in accordance with s. 29.304 or 948.60 (3).

Agreed, without specific supporting evidence. There is no knowing the mind of a teenager, especially a disturbed one.

In a post on X, the account believed to be used by Rupnow shared a video from the 2015 school stabbing in Trollhattan, Sweden, where the suspect killed a teacher, seemingly targeting people with immigrant backgrounds, according to The New York Times' reporting at the time.​

Another post, dated from Dec. 13, is a video of a person taking their own life at a shooting range.​

The most recent two posts to the X account were both shared on the day of the shooting at 11:45 a.m. ET and 11:50 a.m. ET, respectively. The first one was a picture of a person holding up three fingers, resembling the "OK sign" which is also known to be used as a "white power" sign. The intention of the image was not clear.​

So that could explain how she got the gun. Are 15 year-olds allowed to own a firearm in Wisconsin?
 
In Wisconsin, individuals under 18 are generally prohibited from possessing firearms. However, there are specific exceptions for minors engaged in supervised activities.
