Shortages

Pasta has been short and double the price for awhile now! Except Aldi rotini, it only went up 10 cents...from 82 to 92 cents.

The other stores are 1.99 and up!
My husband does most of the shopping, but when I do go with him I'm shocked at the blank spaces on the shelves, especially at Walmart; it seems the most impacted store in our area.

When we could no longer get Jif I tried Smucker's Natural peanut butter. You have to stir it up and then keep it in the refrigerator but there are only two ingredients in it, peanuts and salt. No hydrogenated anything and doesn't seem to be a lot of salt. I think I will continue to use it.
I like that brand too, but sheesh, you need some arm strength to stir it! 🙃

That's right, other than maybe the toilet paper shortage none have been serious.

Its just odd, not something I remember ever happening before.
It is odd and maybe that's what makes it a little unsettling.
The TP thing (people buying it out during storms, etc.) has a history which was explained by a lady from Austraila in a Zoom meeting I was attending several months ago, but I've forgotten it now. It's a thing though, that got started because something... LOL

I love those natural peanut butters. My problem is stirring them at the beginning; I make an oily mess. But, they taste so good.

Imagine what our parents went through during WW2... things were severely rationed. I remember growing up, my mother still had the habit of sponging off tin foil and folding it into a drawer for a second use.

Yes, I still call it "tin foil".
I call it tin foil as well. Coincidentally, my friend in England and I just recently had a conversation about this: aluminum foil / aluminium foil / tin foil.
He told me he's always called it tin foil or simply foil.

I beleive there was really no shortage of TP other than the shortage caused by hoarders
You are probably right, and I guess I was one of those hoarders. We were having trouble finding it and one day I was in Walmart when a whole pallet load came out. I grabbed as much as I could. Took months to use it all...

Never resold it, but did give some away.

OMG really, they were selling TP online at inflated prices? I hadn't even heard of that. During the hoarding shortage, I never ran out of TP. I was able to find it at Trader Joe's and other places if you went in the morning.

I agree there was no actual shortage. I'm not even sure how that TP and paper product mess started.

I went to Target because I saw online they had paper towels in stock. People were waiting for the store to open and they actually had staff monitoring the TP and paper section. I took two small packages of TP and was told only one per customer but I could get a larger one, so I did. I know there were couples in there both with carts and buying separately.

I eat super healthy. And I haven't seen a pineapple since February. I don't eat canned fruit or foods except in emergencies because fresh has more vital nutrients.
Right now, peaches, plums, apricots, cherries, grapes cantaloupe and watermelon are all in season here. I feast on fresh fruit.
As for vegetables, sweet corn, zucchini, eggplant, squash, tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers are in. I can’t get enough of all of these fresh fruits and vegetables. It lasts for about 6-8 weeks. White or Silver Queen is my fav corn. Our peas, green beans and spinach was ready in late April and May. I make my own salsa with my tomatoes and people try to buy it from me, but I won’t sell it due to liability issues. I do give a few jars to friends. I also make different flavors of fruit wines, which is a lot of work.

Fresh apricots ? Where are you located and do you ship? I've been craving fresh apricots for over two years now! /-; Dehydrated apricots are just not the same and the apricot "preserves" that I bought were a joke - it was just tasteless jelly. /-; hmmm...apricot wine, perhaps?

The recession, depression, bidienism, what ever this is has been tuff on me. Every morning for the past fifty or so years I have had a Milky Way bar with my coffee. Being cheap I will pick them up from Sams in a big box, this past month they were out …shortages…so I had to suffer with Three Musketeers, yesterday we were back at the store and still no Milky Ways…shortages…this month I will have to suffer through with Snickers. Life s so hard.
I don't know how much a Milky Way costs, but they're available on Amazon.com if you really want some. I think they come in packages of 36. And they come to your door. Just a thought. Edited- I just saw the price at Sams Club. This one's 13 dollars more, but at least you have them.:)

We have one apricot tree. You would be surprised @ how many apricots one tree will produce. Can’t you grow apricots in Ohio? Mine are just about done, so I use those for wine. If we are both around next July, remind me and I would be happy to send you some free gratis.

I have tried dehydrated fruit. Yuck. I also like Turkish Apricots. If you are lucky enough to find them, help yourself to a real treat.

I stir them at room temperature when I first open to use. Then I lay it on its side in the fridge and usually don't have to stir it again - at least not much.
