Shortages

I did end up getting more PB powder and it's better than I remember it. I've made enough to fill a small plastic container and, when refrigerated for a while, it has the perfect PB consistency and a nice PB taste. :)
Yes, the powdered PB is pretty good.

Speaking of PB, I tried to get the big twin packs of Skippy (or Jif, whatever they have) at Costco last week but they were completely out. Thought it was just my local Costco so I asked my daughter if she'd noticed empty PB shelves at her Costco. Same thing happening there. I wonder if they're discontinuing it or if there's some sort of peanut butter shortage.

Edited to add: I just looked up Skippy PB. Turns out there was a recall. I think I remember @RadishRose mentioning that a few weeks ago and that I checked my PB to be sure it was ok. It was.

I wonder if dry roasted peanuts would work.
Yes it absolutely does. If you look at my earlier post the times listed is for about 8 oz of store bought dry roasted peanuts in a little Oskar food processor. I have made it in our big processor, it takes longer, not a lot, but I'm making 2 lbs and freezing the extra. It literally takes longer to wash up afterward than to make it.

When I buy the raw peanuts I roast them in the oven not on the stove top.

Thanks, Boris. 🌹 🥜🥜🥜🥜

Good to know about making peanut butter at home, but I'm unlikely to do so. I make most foods fully from scratch (or nearly so), but the ugly truth is that I greatly prefer the silky smoothness of highly processed, name brand PB over natural PBs that have to be stirred and fussed with.

It's one of my guilty pleasures.

I agree, @StarSong , Jif extra crunchy being my favorite, I had to buy a substitute last time, but it will be back soon.

Not by my recollection.

In my local stores, peaches, plums, nectarines, watermelons, mangoes, blackberries and blueberries are in high season and being featured at sale prices. No pears yet.

Some idiot blogged that there was a toilet paper shortage. That caused other idiots to buy 800 rolls at a time. And thus, the great Toilet Paper Shortage of the 21st Century was born. Before Covid, if the store shelf was empty, that was because the store was "out" of whatever. After Covid, if a store shelf is empty, it is a shortage with global ramifications. Silly humans.

The last 3 weeks at my neighborhood Walmart, not one jar of sweet pickles only sweet relish. The other thing is canned tiny shrimp, like in a tuna can. I use it in a shrimp dip. I will get both next time I am at kroger or albertsons.
