Yes, this seems to be happening (almost) everywhere!
And, they(the law) are not prosecuting...as D.A.'s "don't think it's worth it"..
It's been in the news.

A few hundred years ago, if you walked into a "general store", every item was behind a counter, and only the clerk could get it from the shelves. Then came along Woolworth's, et al.. The stock was all laid out on tables. Now, we have large "big box" stores with few "clerks". It took a couple of hundred years for people to figure out the store's stock was almost totally unprotected from theft. Thieves just have to pick it up and walk out the door. We have to devise a newer retail system, where stock is not so open to thieves. I haven't the faintest idea what that is.

The last time I shopped in a big department store (pre-covid), they had one checkout counter for the entire floor of merchandise! There was a long line waiting patiently to pay for our items. It occurred to me that they were making it literally easier to shoplift than to buy the item! (No, of course I did not). But outside of the morality factor, isn't it costing these businesses more in stolen merchandise than it would cost them to hire a minimum wage checkout person or two?

yep same here..rather than pay for more checkout staff they have one manned till.. for a whole warehouse of stuff... you're right, I think they must lose much more in thefts than they would, paying for more checkout staff..

All types of crime are on the increase and we all know why. Yet no governments are doing anything about it. I should like to know the reason.

Who is 'we all'??

Around here, it's mostly because the idiots in the courts system just let them out. It's frustrating for police who do their job, and then it doesn't go any further.
'We all' refers to all decent people who are the unfortunate victims of the current loose morals in our society. It's no longer safe to walk the streets, so we are all affected.

Here in California, a large underclass has developed that views the rest of society as their oppressors, giving them easily rationalized reasons to break laws with little guilt. Our Wall Street corporations colluded with politicians to ignore the 1986 immigration legislation to allow endless immigrants from all over the world, not just those south of our border to enter our society and culture. They knew the general population would not allow such so it was all big money back door political.

For decades those living in Eastern states that could have stopped it, ignored us, just laughed at Californians as we were overrun and now they as myopic fools are facing the same issues. At the same time the Wall Street fat cats and their minions just keep getting richer as the greedy wealth gap widens to society and culture and moral destroying levels. That is most evident in the way financial corps, real estate corps, REITs, and their armies of house flippers and other endless growth and development industries race to jack residence costs so high on we helpless working class American victims that we now have a ridiculously ugly homeless problem the rest of the world is laughing at given our decades of pushing the benefits of democracy on the rest of them. Worse, is the whole overpopulated with earth monkeys planet is running out of time with global warming, species, and environment destructions.

The current dumb dumb dumb open borders situation is just exacerbating an already awful problem. The intransigent situation just makes this senior want to find some place in a remote area and dig a hole to hide in during the remaining limited years of my existence.

If most of our societal LEADERS are mostly all criminals, doesn't that create a culture of criminals?

Quote for truth. Politicians, industry leaders (esp pharma executives--top of the heap for lobbying dollars to Congress while pricing essential for life medications out of reach for most that need them), alphabet agency bureaucrats, the 'bad apple' LEOs allowed to stay on forces until they kill someone, protect criminals instead of victim judges... and on and on.

Oh my. As born and raised Californians, the wife and I spent our civilian careers in and around California‘s banking and brokerage industry, and never did we observe the diabolical immigration scheme that you specifically attribute to California‘s “Wall Street corporations”. Sorry to bother you, but could you provide a non-partisan link to support your allegation?

Our society is increasingly being divided between the Haves and the Have Nots. Inflation is driving more people into, or near, poverty with every passing month. Meanwhile, the number of millionaires, billionaires, and corporate profits continue to rise. Couple that with movements to defund the police, and we have a "perfect storm" developing that will be driving crime higher and higher.

When I was young, it wasn’t safe to walk the streets then, either. However, it was much easier for the criminals to hide

their crimes. As for loose morals, many people closed their eyes to all manner of criminal behaviour towards women and children. Not very decent of them at all.

There was an invitation on social media on Thursday to join a flash mob at a 7-11 store in LA on Friday. Maybe we should all join in. Why not? People don’t have to obey laws anymore and the DA’s aren’t prosecuting and even the DOJ doesn’t care. So we should all get our fair share. I wouldn’t mind having some free stuff.

So, what is the problem? Racism? Hmmm. If that is the case then we should expect White households to have the highest median income. But wait! They don't. Whites come in #2. How could that be, and why?

“Smash and grab” has happened at stores near me. At places like Victoria’s Secret, they’ll go in and grab armfuls of stock off a rack at the front of the store, then they’re out and scattered before a response can be generated. I guess size doesn’t matter if you’re reselling stolen goods…🙀

I am living below the poverty line and I'm angry that I am being lumped in with the criminals here.
