As pro gun as I am, I think banning assault weapons is thee way to go, as assault weapons are truly designed to do one thing...kill.
Other guns, such as sporting, are to get food on the table (in some parts), or hand guns....for defense.
But, yeah, assault rifles should be in the category of rocket launchers, or bombs.
(2nd amendment shouldn't be affected)
I see no need for an assault rifle.
My 12 gauge does the job of defense or deterrent quite well.

I agree with that. I'll go a step further and say that any civilian who thinks they need an assault rifle has got serious psychological problems and should probably be put on some kind of watch list.

But here's the thing Gary. The anti-gun people have no intention of stopping at an assault rifle ban. They also want your shotgun and my revolvers. You look at any of these countries that they point to as having strict gun laws. Every one of them makes it a pain in the butt for even a law abiding citizen to have any kind of firearm whatsoever.

As well it should be. It has invaribly been used as an excuse to harass poor people. With particular emphasis on dark skinned males.

So, the petition needs to emphasize what is and isn't, and where it ends in unquestionable clarity
The rest is up to clear thinking individuals...voters

Why do you [and some others] continue to call them "shooters" ? ........ They are killers .... shooters are innocent folks that just enjoy a sport.

Any weapon can be an assault weapon. Most rifles , rapid fire or not, spend most their time in the gun safe.

I tend to agree but I also think that people need to look beyond the assault style design on many rifles and understand how they actually compare to the traditional sporting rifles that many of us grew up with.

Of the 86 countries that have identified mass public shootings, the US ranks 56th per capita in its rate of attacks and 61st in mass public shooting murder rate. Norway, Finland, Switzerland and Russia all have at least 45 percent higher rates of murder from mass public shootings than the United States. So, by your logic, you have an almost 50% chance of being a victim in these other countries.

Bombs are illegal in both the U.S. and Europe. Yet Europe loses far more people
to bombings than the U.S. Doesn't that make them more violent?

The point is, guns aren't the problem; deranged killers that grow up in broken families often without positive male role models in their lives are the problem.
So are political and religious extremists, If these people didn't have guns, they would find some other means to do the job.

What's upsetting is that most of these killers,(as is usually the case), showed all the signs of being a potential killer,. Yet these signs were ignored.

I typically conceal carry S&W Airweight 5 shot 38 snub nose but after the two recent massacres I switched to my Springfield semiauto 40 cal. with a 10 round capacity. I wanted to go to Walmart yesterday but decided against it so to avoid a copy cat nut job. Sad times.
