If you want to know who the enemy of freedom is, always ask, “Who is burning the books? Who is preventing the open flow of ideas?”
Unfortunately, we have seen much of this oppression in the past 120 years. Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Pot, Amin, these were the dictators and “benevolent leaders” who imprisoned, tortured, killed, “Cleansed” – all in the name of their version of social utopia.
In the former US, in the 1950s and 1960s, it was the right wingers and social conservatives who censored books and ruined lives, whether it was McCarthy’s blacklisting of anyone supposed of being a communist or school boards across the country banning books based on sexual content, communist ideas, etc. We know the history of this injustice.
That has changed completely, now in the US it is the radical left that had taken over schools and media. They are banning the books, movies, ideas that do not fit their political agenda. The banning of Mark Twain in most New England schools, for instance, who was the first American author to portray a positive relationship between a black and white person, btw, is just one example. The taking down of statues is just the beginning. Statues of Winston Churchill being defaced, arguably the one person most responsible for standing up to Hitler in the West (yes, Stalin too in this matter), and Teddy Roosevelt in NY! Teddy, the first President to dine with a black man in the White House and a huge social reformer. Doesn’t matter.
Rewriting history to fit one’s political agenda is also part of the game plan for any oppressive regime that denies a citizen’s personal freedom. History is being rewritten, so the statues have to come down.
In the town next to me, there is a statue of a Northern Civil War Colonel who led his men in the fight to end slavery and was a main operator of the Underground Railroad. He was a true abolitionist. His statue has been desecrated and torn by people with no respect for history. And now they won’t even know history.
If you live in Washington state, be prepared for the name of your state to change in a few years. The greatest societies fall from within. The former USA is no different.
