Suicide: Deliverance or The Dark Side of Dying?

When I was a child in the 1950's, there were times that I didn't want to continue living in my childhood. 2 ignorant parents. I was a child bed wetter. Their constant beatings (especially one of them). Their constant shaming and verbal abuse (once again, one of them). I didn't want to keep going through that. But I did manage though. I've never thought about suicide since then. Now being much older, I think a person should be allowed to end their life, if they are in terrible physical or financial condition. Some people are just bored and they have nothing to look forward to anymore.

Back in the 1970's, I heard on the radio that actor George Sanders took his own life and left a note saying that he was bored and that he had lived long enough. It started me wondering if other people when they got older felt the same way.

@CallMeKate and @OldOld need to buy the computer game, Civilization VI, and then tell me whether they enjoy killing millions IN THE GAME or not.

I send my forces into foreign cities and then massacre the inhabitants. I always play Germany in the game since they have the best attributes for mass killing. I once played the USA in the game and was absolutely bored.

If you have not tried Civilization VI, then you cannot contest my judgement. At age 90 I spend most of my waking hours in that game.

Near the end of a game, which takes many months to complete, research eventually yields the production of nuclear bombs. One can even get to build hydrogen bombs for even more damage. Space ships are also available for production near the end of the game after many months playing it. When one sends jet bombers with nukes to bomb enemy cities, one can even imagine the screams of the little people as the mushroom clouds expand over the enemy cities!

The most fun is sending "Modern Armor," the best of the available tanks to crush opponents.

I also enjoy reading Audible eBooks about WW 2. The mass killings of WW 2 are described in detail. The most interesting part is about Nazi Germany invading the Soviet Union and read about how Hitler and Stalin massacred millions. Then I go to the game and play it out on my computer! My favorite Audible eBook is "Bloodlands." It describes how Hitler and Stalin killed millions and millions!

Do you think suffering will land you a better seat in heaven? And what about palliative care to help transition to death, or morphine to ease pain during those final days? Acceptable? Or would that negate the suffering necessary to let your God know you're worthy?
Has nothing to do with worthy or not worthy. The thief on the cross next to Jesus was not worthy but he is in heaven with God. Suffering is not necessary. Enduring pain is not the point. God decides when. Not you.

I worship Mars, the God of War. Thus, I am prepared to die in a nuclear war! I am 90 now and subject to lots of pain and increasing impairment. I accept everything which happens to me. My solution to terrible arthritis pain is to play Civilization VI where I can kill MILLIONS in the game and allow the suffering of my victims in the game to distract me from my own pain.
you are an .....don't want to say it. just go away

Even though Phil has left the building he's with us in spirit only according to his avatar.

As someone whose life has been touched and shaped by suicide I feel that every suicide is as individual as the person who takes their own life. Some suicides are top level tragedies which inflict pain and suffering on those who are left behind to deal with the aftermath, others such as those who are terminally ill are a merciful release and an end to their suffering.
I would rather end my life on my own terms than be an inmate of the aged care system dying slowly with little to no dignity. In the meantime life is for living and live it I shall quality of life is my main determinant rather than quantity of years, months and days logged in the register

There is no such thing as assisted suicide because suicide by definition is self inflicted death, but that won't stop people using the term. Euthanasia, medically assistance in dying (MAID) and other terms are the terms that should be used for those who wish to seek death on their own terms as opposed to those who would rather die naturally or when they believe the deity calls them.
I've said this before but my my mother, an ex-army nurse from a medical family was supporter of voluntary assisted dying but she did not live long enough to have that option. In later years she conned her way out of hospital numerous times but finally the treating physicians saw through her ploys, she was told that that she could not go back to her apartment at the retirement village but that she would go to a high care facility. In the end she refuse and antibiotic treatment for sepsis and was given medication for pain and nausea. I held her hand as she died, sje lived and died on her own terms and I'm inspired by that.

Nursing homes?
Hell no we won't go...
I lost my daughter to suicide. I believe that she was at a crossroads between the drugs and her upbringing before the lord. She sang AMAZING GRACE, at my cousins funeral for drug related issues. She struggled but her faith in the Lord finally made her say, I WANT TO GO HOME.
We were taken unawares of her struggles but I know now that she decided to go home to the Lord. I miss her so much but I understand.
