Tattoos like, 'em, or hate 'em.

Tattoos have grown in both how many people have them, and in how much skin is tattooed. My dad had a tattoo on his right arm, "USN', for his time in the Navy, during WWII. As he grew older, he was embarrassed by the tat, which few every saw. Today, it's fashionable to ink huge, visible portions of your body. I'm a purist. I don't like tats. To me, they screw up a beautiful body. And I don't get the symbolism of most people's tats. Who cares if you loved a band that broke up 20 years ago. Today, it's not a tiny heart on your butt, but a snake curling out your back, and up the right side of your face and head. Yet, other people love them.
BTW I screwed up and posted this in "Days Gone By".

The tattoos that are like wallpaper were once the hallmark of Japanese gangsters. They have come to the US big time.

I have a small one from my Navy days, that is not visible if I am wearing even a t-shirt.

They really look strange on some of the older ladies here in the "geezer ghetto".

I'm like you with regards to tattoos! I abhor them because they take away the beauty of the glorious body and make you stare at something that is manmade, especially if it's on the face or neck! Also, it being permanent makes me shudder. I feel it could be a form of a rebellious act, a defiant act against God, or it can be caused by an influence by peers, or even a nostalgic act. Nothing wrong with people doing things to their bodies. It's their body. But personally, I don't like it. I'm a purist.

I don't have or want tattoos, let alone put stickers on my car mostly because I like things plain and don't enjoy customizing or personalizing stuff. You're free to do with your body as you please, of course. I just think many young people these days do it in a spur of the moment and regret it later. Not that I never did something like that way back when but it sure wasn't something this permanent!

I'm a purist also when it comes to tattoos. I really don't like them. Certainly not for myself. What other people do to their bodies is their choice. It's more challenging to keep skin flawless throughout a lifetime and it's so beautiful when we can. Why mess it up with ink? 🤗

I was once at a fairground, and fronting one of the attractions was a man wearing just a brief bathing costume. he was totally tattooed.
A lady in the crowd shouted, "I'll bet you're not tattooed on your thingymajigs!"
He promptly lowered his cozzie to his knees, twirled around 360 degrees and smiling, shouted, " You are so wrong, Madam." 😊

Personally, I dislike tattoos. :)

I personally dislike tattoos... I don't notice my husbands' one tattoo on his forearm anymore, but I really dislike the tattos my daughter has on her feet...they're not heavy coloured ink drawings type.. but despite being ''delicate'' I think it takes away from her pretty feet when she's wearing open toe shoes

I really have no issues with tattoos, unless they are vulgar, poorly-done, or intended to shock the viewer in an overtly confrontational fashion. Mine are all invisible under normal clothing, were rendered by a well-regarded artist in the field, and are quite thematic. I even have a tiny fox running under my watch band; time flies, you know! The tattoos are there for myself as kind of an identity embellishment, a form of permanent jewelry.

What I do have a teensy bit of a problem with are those with large ear plugs in the lobes, or other facial piercings as they can be a distraction when having to maintain a focused conversation with such an individual. Then there are the extreme body modifiers, such as this French gentleman who removed part of his nose and upper lip to resemble a black alien… 🙀

I believe that's called a mental illness.

I sometimes find them interesting, or amusing, but for myself, I always figured why mess with perfection.;) Sometimes amazed I made through four years in the Navy, much of it drunk, and, or high without getting one. Mike

I too made it thru the Navy without a tattoo....cannot say
I am exactly a fan or hater, just ho-hum....tell you what I am
tired of seeing tho, those huge hoops girls are wearing in
their ears these days....!!!!

I used to be a regular blood donor at our local Blood Bank, twice a year when I was younger.

I remember back then they did not want people with current tattoo work to donate .... actually, they said within the last two years.
They said that ink can get into the blood stream and it could be an issue of contamination.

Do they still reject people on that basis? If so, then there must be blood donating shortages everywhere.

I've never understood the "rational" behind tattoo's....what makes a person feel the need to get one?? I see nothing wrong with a discrete, easily covered tattoo, but when someone covers their face and neck, with this "artwork", they look like a circus freak....to me.
