Teen shot in the head after going to wrong address to pick up siblings

This one took place over the weekend too. The cops have been defunded since the 'peaceful' demonstrations in 2020. Is it really any wonder that people feel they have to protect themselves?

Compton residents say street takeovers have become common; LASD to partner with CHP to stop looting

COMPTON, Calif. (KABC) -- Sheriff's deputies in Compton have returned to their patrol duties Monday following a chaotic weekend that involved a series of street takeovers and a mob of looters that left a trail of destruction at local stores.

And, law enforcement officials say they are developing partnerships and a plan to stop the increasingly common occurrence of street takeovers in Compton.

Video captured a wild scene at an Arco gas station near Alondra Boulevard and Central Avenue early Sunday morning where a large group was caught on video bum-rushing an Arco gas station and stealing thousands of dollars' worth of merchandise, all while the clerk on duty hid inside.

The video shows one man breaking the glass door while dozens of looters crowd behind him. Moments later, the group was seen grabbing everything from drinks, snacks, alcohol and even condoms.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department told Eyewitness News thousands of dollars' worth of merchandise was stolen and serious damage was done to the store.

Investigators said shots were fired about a block away from the store raid though no injuries were reported. Meanwhile, staff at the gas station told ABC7 the clerk who hid in the bathroom is doing okay.

Residents of Compton say the street takeovers have become a frequent problem in the area in which the looting took place, and they say the scenes captured at the Arco were bound to happen at some point.

"This intersection, this goes down 2 to 3 nights a week. We hear the motors roaring, if you're close by you probably can't breathe after they got going," said Ricky Finley, a resident of Compton.

LA Police defunded? Really?

Despite 'defunding' claims, police funding has increased in many U.S. cities

Is the LA County Sheriff being defunded? What data and experts say

https://abc7.com/watch/

Most of the more than 100 agencies analyzed by ABC7 saw increases of at least 2% in their budgets between fiscal year 2019 and fiscal year 2022. The LA County Sheriff's Department is no exception. But, experts say reallocating resources could actually help departments.

In Los Angeles, the county sheriff says local residents are in danger because "defunding has consequences," even though his agency's budget is up more than $250 million.

Sheriff Alex Villanueva is not alone in suggesting to voters that crime is up because Democrats defunded police agencies after nationwide protests of the 2020 murder of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer.

Politicians, pundits and police leaders across the country are repeating the idea as they address concerns about crime heading toward Election Day.

The truth is, in many communities, defunding never happened.

ABC Owned Television Stations examined the budgets of more than 100 cities and counties and found 83% are spending at least 2% more on police in 2022 than in 2019.

..and another..

A man has been charged with second-degree murder in the US after he allegedly shot and killed a 20-year-old woman as the car she was in mistakenly drove up the man's driveway.
Kaylin Gillis was with three other people in New York state on Saturday.
They accidentally drove into the driveway of Kevin Monahan in the town of Hebron, police say.
As the driver was leaving, Mr Monahan, 65, allegedly opened fire on the vehicle, hitting Ms Gillis.

"This is a very sad case of some young adults who were looking for a friend's house and ended up at this man's house who decided to come out with a firearm and discharge it," Washington Country Sheriff Jeffrey Murphy told a news conference.
The area is rural, and the driveways are poorly lit at night. None of the group had exited the vehicle or attempted to enter Mr Monahan's house before he allegedly opened fire, Mr Murphy said.

There's clearly no threat from anyone in the vehicle," Sheriff Murphy said. "There's no reason for Mr Monahan to feel threatened."
The friends drove away from the house and attempted to call for help in a nearby town, but Ms Gillis was pronounced dead by paramedics.
Mr Monahan was "unco-operative with the investigation and refused to exit his residence to speak with police", the sheriff's office said in a news release.

I think certain factions and news media in the US have stoked fear and paranoia, creating a non-existent Boogeyman, to the point of causing people to fear for their lives for no good reason. That, and a certain segment of the population that is so angry they will just shoot people for no good reason. It's sad.

By your comment, I can see you have no idea what my point was. Therefore, I won't try to have a further discussion. I will say what I like, if you disagree, that is your problem...

Just so I understand, can you explain how someone disagreeing with someone becomes the problem of the other person.

Doesn’t logic suggest that a disagreement is something that is felt on both sides? And therefore your statement of, that is your problem..., is the problem of both. In that if you are disagreeing with the person that is disagreeing with you, then equally, that is your problem...

Not to labour the point but fear does seem to be behind more than a few shooting deaths. This is the latest example -

A New York man is accused of fatally shooting a woman who pulled into the wrong driveway

Kevin Monahan allegedly fired at a car with four friends inside after they realized they’d pulled into the wrong driveway and were leaving, an official said.

A New York man was accused of fatally shooting a 20-year-old woman Saturday after her friend pulled into the driveway of a home that they mistakenly believed belonged to another friend, authorities said. Kevin Monahan, 65, is alleged to have fired at the car after the group of four friends realized they’d pulled into the wrong driveway and were leaving the home in Hebron, roughly 50 miles north of Albany, Washington County Sheriff Jeffrey Murphy told reporters Monday.

Kaylin Gillis was pronounced dead several miles southeast of the home, the Washington County Sheriff's Office said in a statement. The group had driven to the site after the car was fired on, Murphy said. Monahan faces charges of second-degree murder and was being held at the Warren County jail, Murphy said.

“This is a very sad case of some young adults that were looking for a friend’s house and ended up at this man’s house,” Murphy said.

"She was a young girl that was taken way too young," he added.

The friends had been in the driveway a short time when, Murphy alleged, Monahan fired two shots from the porch of his home. One of the bullets struck the car, he said. Murphy said there appeared to be no interaction between the group and Monahan before the shots were fired.
There was “clearly no threat” from anyone in the car, he added.

As a foreigner to the United States of America your perspective is irrelevant!

People that don't know our history or really understand our culture have no clear perspective. Her comment "Americans must live with fear of death every day." is in fact true for everyone in the world. Do people in Australia die in car wrecks, airplanes crashes, natural disasters, not to mention the wars your people have fought in. Do people get robbed and/or in knife fights in your country? Do you have violent crime...

You get my point....He who is without sin....

For those of you non-US citizens I've posted an 8 minute video that explains American culture in case you've not be watching for the last 40 years. After watching this video you'll be fully qualified to comment on our sad state of affairs.

Perhaps you have spent too much time in the high altitude, where you have less oxygen. You seem a bit confused...

These are two extremely tragic and senseless shootings. I'm glad this young man at least survived but he is, understandably, extremely traumatized.

This old Kansas City shooter deserves to spend his remaining years in prison, IMO. The area where this occurred is in a nice suburban neighborhood with a low crime rate. If he is so "paranoid" that he can't even open his door without a gun in hand, he doesn't deserve to be part of society. A simple "you have the wrong address" should have sufficed.

Don't like the article, take it up with the newspaper that wrote it. Here's another one that doesn't cite Defund the Police but addresses police shortages. Or continue to believe the liberal press and pretend it isn't happening. I don't really care.
--------

The LAPD has lost nearly 1,000 officers. Now, Mayor Karen Bass wants to rebuild the force

The LAPD is hemorrhaging officers, with more leaving the force than are joining it. Police Chief Michel Moore reported last week that sworn staffing had fallen to 9,103, down nearly 1,000 from 2019, the year that preceded the outbreak of COVID-19.

Part of the problem seems to be the “get out of jail free” card pulled by simply saying that you are afraid. That is wrong. We have all been afraid. Most vacate the situation or tough it out. Now it is ok to just shoot and ask questions later. I had a friend who was abducted…strangled and raped repeatedly. She escaped when the perps passed out. They received prison…she received a lesson in real fear. Once when leaving a bar she was surprised by a guy urinating by her car bumper….she MACED him!!!

Thankfully this young man looks recovered from his physical injuries.. probably not ever from the mental trauma..he he is with his lawyer

scroll down on this link to see the Old man's first appearance in court as he pleads Not Guilty.. as his ex wife says she 's not surprised he's done this because
......during their marriage, he would frequently become violently angry.

He would fly into a rage, and smash objects in their house.

When she reported him to the police, she said, the officers told her that it was his house and he could do as he wished.

That could have happened to any of us. Who has not at least once in their life accidentally knocked on the wrong door, or tried to open the door of a car that was nearly identifcal to theirs?

The availability of guns in this country to anyone and everyone has brought us to this.

What has struck me is that two of the recent crimes involved OLD men shooting YOUNG kids. This interests me. A generational phenomenon?

Now a six year old girl is shot because her ball rolled into someone's yard.

What IS going on in America?
While people have guns, these incidents will not stop, innocent lives will be ended.
I can only presume it is a price American people feel is worth paying in order to hold onto their right to own weapons.
I am very glad I don't live over there.

I disagree, we're governed at this point by the minority which does insist that no cost is too high to bear so they can express their "freedumb." The majority however think differently and are wanting to slow or eliminate gun availability and implement a various menu of further restrictions.
