The 2024 Olympics in Paris

I hope everyone is as excited about the Summer Olympics coming up, as I am. The World's young athletes coming together for the Gold-Silver or Bronze, just a great excuse to shift one's focus away from the World's problems, and just have some upbeat fun for a couple weeks!

I'm looking forward to them. I still enjoy watching track and field , swimming and water polo events. I used to be glued to the basketball games but that all changed with the first "Dream Team". I think it's great that other countries have become more competitive though. In earlier times, the USSR and the USA dominated all others in basketball. I'll also watch some lightweight boxing matches.
 
No sports in general, no Olympics in particular. And I never watch the news on TV, nor do I read newspapers. Thus there is not the slightest chance to catch even a one second glimpse of the Olympic Games. At the moment is the opening in TV and my wife and me are sitting on the balcony on this warm summer evening. It is very quiet, obviously because most people in the neighborhood are sitting in front of their TV sets and watching the opening.

Track & field are my favourite events... but I haven't watched the Olympics now for a couple of years, I have no idea who is who any more...
 
Well, we were disappointed with some of the ceremony. We loved the mechanical horse on the water, the lighting of the flame, the light laser show at the Eiffel Tower, and loved Celine Dion and the opera segments, esp Carmen. Loved of course, seeing all of the athletes. However, seeing rap musicians being featured and rappers carrying the torch disappointed us. Also the drag performers were not our thing either.
 
I will random watch some and maybe learn something. We were living here in Atlanta during the '96 Olympics. Tickets were hard to come by but we got to see some basketball and hockey. The most fun was trading Olympic pins with friends and strangers. I still have a collection.

This was deliberate evil. I'm not a Christian. It is obvious that evil took the opportunity to be on television, to desecrate a major world religion and it's followers.
 
Zero. I hope they are bankrupted and the Olympics ends. There are plenty of worldwide sporting events these days. I pray that Zeus will extinguish the flame.

ya mean ya hope so hard for breakdancing to become an Olympic sport ? .... What a crock !!
 
Just saw a few mins of cycling on news, one gal had fallen
off her bike three times this morning, why not quit....cause
the wheels goes round and round and round and round!!!
 
Olympics are a rest stop when channel surfing.

The Olympics have lost their uniqueness because all the sports and athletes are available year round on tv where 50 years one would only see these events and athletes covered in an Olympic year. Then letting the pros compete just make it another game, contest etc.

What about Wrestling. I enjoy Judo also, but Wrestling is also a very complex combat type sport that I love to watch...
