The diet drug Ozempic...would you take it..?

yep I'm afraid I often think this when I see people in a condition you wouldn't imagine they'd come out if they saw themselves.. but then I think maybe Kelly has that Anorexic mind set now where she's looking in a mirror and STILL thinking she's overweight... sad if that's the case...
I was more looking at the need for a beauty shop and a personal shopper.

I've been opposed to semiglutide as a weight loss drug having seen one too many (one is enough!) cases of gastroparesis as a dietitian.

But I've now decided to try it, not for weight loss, but micro-dosing for inflammation associated with autoimmune disorders. Semiglutides are showing success in off-label use and in early studies for reducing autoimmune inflammation. Biologics (such as Humira) side effects (increased risk of infection) have scared me so I haven't tried them due to that and also that many patients and rheumatologists report biologics eventually lose efficacy. The adverse GI effects of semiglutides so far seem negligible with microdosing so I'm about to give it a try. Got a two months supply today.

I have been watching and reading on the many weight loss drugs ...
Most will not know all the side effects until people have enough serious consequences to limit or change drugs. The idea these are prescribed to only the obese who need it is wrong....... some doctors will give to almost anyone. I have had 2 friends who may be slightly overweight but not significantly were offered this.
In my looking at articles, especially online there are many many of " i lost weight changing diet and exercise " type articles.
The one thing i noticed is the before and after photos ... many, if not all using drugs look pale and unhealthy.

Face issues with so many more noticeable IMO on women........ but men and women both sometimes look ten years older etc.
while the other groups changing lifestyle...... looked thinner but had color and definition in their face.

Interesting thread, tirzepatide and the soon to be released retatrutide are interesting products in this space.
Anyone tried or on them? I've been on for the last 3 months.

It's not weight loss, it's fat loss whilst retaining muscle provided you eat sufficient protein.
Insulin sensitivity improves which improves other metabolic markers (ie: blood glucose)

You can start with a low dose weekly and increase up as needed, get to your goal then dial it back then off.
Products are cheap and you are not dependent on them for a lifetime.
Symptoms vary but the risk v reward on these seems like a no brainer.
Anyone else had a good or bad experience with them?

This was in the USA Today briefing in my email...

Quitting Ozempic? New research shows people who quit taking popular GLP-1 drugs such as Ozempic might not only gain back lost weight. They also might be jeopardizing their heart health.

I don't understand why the drs want to give people diabetes meds just because they're A1C is high. If I'm not diabetic I feel like it's more dangerous to take a medication that is for diabetes. Doc tried to get me to take Metformin and I was unable. Then he got mad and accused me of being non compliant.

How is it non compliant if I can't physically take a medicine that is for a disease I don't even have?

When one stops taking medications that provide protection from heart health issues they lose the benefits of taking the medications when they stop.

What a surprise!!!

Too often these days people are given drugs for off-label purposes.
Diabetes medications for weight loss is one example.
Botox for migraines is another.

Considering the benefits so-called health care providers can receive for prescribing, it's not surprising that they do it.

Not sure if you're just agreeing or being snarky. I just posted it because it happened to pop up in my email.

No, I wouldn't. These days I don't need to because I changed my diet completely.

All those pics of folks who look like they belong in coffins look like that because they lost the weight quickly. I lost nearly 30 pounds over a couple of years. I'm fortunate enough that my skin didn't lose all structure and the weight loss didn't age me further. Probably because it was done over a stretch of time.

That is my goal exactly, @robin416, so I am happy to hear you have had success. And congrats to you!

Just over a year ago I started a concerted effort to exercise and overhaul my diet. I now eat only fresh, healthy foods, avoiding carbs as much as I can and ultraprocessed food almost completely. I've been slowly dropping weight, my range of motion and endurance are better, and my blood levels (e.g., glucose, cholesterol) have improved.

Progress has been slow, and I have a ways to go, but I'm OK with that. I have a weakness for sugar, and that tends to make me stray.

Good point. Several years ago I told my PCP that I wanted to lose weight. I was expecting help creating a plan, but he handed me a prescription for metformin. I never filled it because I prefer to avoid medications if possible.

I didn't even plan for this to happen to this degree. I was approaching a weight I was not happy with and somehow stumbled across a Mediterranean cooking website. I had no plans or idea it would have this much impact on my weight.

Don't let the sweet wants hold you back. I eat sweets. Not a lot. Usually a cookie or a couple pieces of chocolate at night. That seems to be all I want.

I don't avoid all carbs. My diet is heavy in complex carbs since I rarely eat animal protein anymore.

You'll get there and by doing it the right way will benefit. Well, I guess you know that since you already know your numbers are improving.

Someone mentioned Botox for migraines. It is not used cosmetically on the face but the two women I know who have had it was given on the skull not the face. Both reported it as being very painful and not very helpful.
