The scammers are busy…

We get 3 or 4 a day....if we don't recognize the number, we let it ring, and go to "message"....which almost never happens. At the end of the day, I go thru the numbers and add them to our call blocker....so far, over a thousand numbers blocked. But, they just scam a new number the next time they call....we've even had a couple showing our own number.

Caller ID Spoofing

What Is Spoofing?

Spoofing is when a caller deliberately falsifies the information transmitted to your caller ID display to disguise their identity. Scammers often use neighbor spoofing so it appears that an incoming call is coming from a local number, or spoof a number from a company or a government agency that you may already know and trust. If you answer, they use scam scripts to try to steal your money or valuable personal information, which can be used in fraudulent activity.

Watch the video and click through the tabs to learn more about spoofing and how to avoid being scammed.

If you think you've been the victim of a spoofing scam, you can file a complaint with the FCC.

Lately I've been getting a lot of scam calls starting with: "This is a robo call from (some insurance company or other). Um - are you hearing me all right?" She always puts in that cute little "Um," to make it sound like a nice, friendly person. But I think if you answer, "Yes," it enables them to get into your bank account, or something like that. I never answer anything, I just hang up. Mostly I just don't pick up if I don't recognize the caller.

Has anyone ever had Amazon call them to complain about an unfavorable customer service survey? I had a very odd call today from someone who said that they were from Amazon.

I had a computer "freeze" from "Microsoft" yesterday, I couldn't get out of it / free it up . I called the number and spoke Rasheed .......... after a verbal thrashing......<grin>........ I was able to do a complete shut-down ...... and re-start without problems.

I got a variation of the Amazon scam yesterday. The dolts called at 7:30 in the morning, the recorded message said that over $600 had been charged to my account, and if I did not make this purchase to call them immediately at such-and-such a number. You never want to do that as they’ll then milk you for your information and use it to suck your account dry, I simply checked my Amazon account at the actual website, saw that no charges had been made, and knew that it was a scam.

Scammers will try to alarm you by startling you so you respond immediately and impulsively without thinking things out; hence, the early morning phone call and the high amount supposedly charged. It’s an attempt at psychological manipulation. Just a warning if you haven’t encountered anything like this that you may; perhaps they’ll say that several expensive laptops have been charged to your account. Don’t buy into the scam, don’t feel pressured to respond, and by all means verify before you do anything else… 👮‍♂️
I've received that call too.

A few weeks ago I kept ignoring and deleting what I thought were spam but then it turned out the messages really were from my credit card company and I had then to call and get them to take the fraud-block off my card.

The scammers are getting better and better at this. Real logos, articulate, no grammar errors. The first thing I do is check the address of the sender. Even that may be a no_reply@…. That still doesn’t tempt me to call the number in the email.

Oh yes, I get texts constantly that my bank acct has been charged ($400. or $560 or whatever) Call this number right away if this charge is incorrect.
Haha! Same thing on my e-mails. Just don't respond.
Yesterday I got a call from what sounded like a 50 year old man saying, "Grandma? Grandma!"
Poor guy. He probably needed some money. (except I don't have a grandson)

I don't know why, but I keep getting the scam about " your car's warrantee is about to expire". At least once, a day. (My car is only about 8 months old, with 7,000 miles.) I don't answer calls, I let the answering machine take the call. Most of the callers just hang up, only legitimate callers want to leave a message. And if a scammer does leave one, there's the erase button.

I had a spoofed number on my caller ID, supposedly from Amazon. The woman tried to get me to give her the security code on the back of a credit card. I asked her name and said I would call her back (fat chance!) and she hesitated and gave me an obviously fake name. I asked for her number and she gave me a seven digit one. I asked for an area code and she asked me "what's an area code?"🤪

It's the same thing on F.B. My scam last month was. I was on Messenger talking to an old friend I worked with for 20 years.
This person knew all of the Evelyns personal Info. As she talked about things that happened at our plant.
Long story short. I sent her $5,000.00 worth of gift cards.

I finally called Evelyn on the phone & ask what was going on that she needed so much money? She said Oh no they got you too. She said that is NOT me on there. She was scammed the same way by what she thought was talking to another person we worked with.

So if you get a request from a person you know for $$$ CALL THEM to make sure it's them.

I just talked to my bank's credit card dept. this morning because they sent a credit card to my wife here at my address. She has been gone now for 6+ years. Trying to cancel that is like pulling hair. Got to call a different number Monday from 8 to 5 to see if my bank has my wife's death certificate on file I gave them a month after she passed.

I will get part of my money back or about $3,000.00 at the end of this month
Good that you post all of this information to warn others.

Yes, I've had that call many times too.

I installed a call blocker some time ago and that's helped a lot. Oh we'll still get them, but it's nothing like we used to have all the time.
Just lately we did get one of those, 'suspicious charges on our Amazon account' scam calls. We don't have an Amazon account so that was easy peasy to figure out.

Once I got a voice message on our answering machine saying, because of non-payments your electric power is going to be shut off in twenty minutes! They left me a phone number I should call, but instead I headed for the kitchen fridge and started in on the beer before it got warm ..
