Tired. Just plain worn out.

This getting old stuff is exhausting. How long do I have to be "getting" before I can be just plain old, sit in a rocker and do nothing at all, not even think? When my kids were grown and gone, I thought I'd done my job and could live my own life, but I'm plumb worn out.

I wish I was a little rock sitting on a hill
doing nothing all day long but just a-sitting still.

I wouldn't eat. I wouldn't sleep. I wouldn't even wash.
I'd just sit still a thousand years and rest myself, by gosh.

Do you need some vitamins Georgia?? How about some liquid energy, LOL!! Now I'm gettin worried, I'm gonna have to know what you are eating, are you drinking water, and how old are you? I mean, if you're like 100 or something, maybe it's time to slow down a little hey??:lofl:Do I have to come out there to get you in shape or what?

I eat lots of fruits and veggies and whole grains, very little meat, almost no red meat ever and never cured meats. Unless it's a salad, I stay away from fast food, never drink carbonated soft drinks. I drink a lot of water, especially when I'm working. I'm 73, have so-so BP and not so good cholesterol (take meds for both), and except for an infection in a tooth at the moment, am otherwise healthy according to my sawbones.

I dumped one client last Friday and am going to give another one the axe this week, which will leave me with seven...one weekly, four every other week, two just once every four weeks.

I'm tired of working my azz off and being broke and having nothing to show for hard work except that hands that look like crab claws:mad:

Georgia, If you can't afford to quit, how about just taking a couple of weeks off. When was the last time you had a vacation? If your family isn't real close, how about visiting them and getting a little pampering? Then if you decide to retire, and you can afford to, do it.
I never had a vacation until I retired, so I was a bit apprehensive to quit. After a little while, when I started to get bored, I realized I finally had time for all those hobbies I thought I never get to. At least give yourself a break.

Hi Georgia, I'm new, and its nice to meet you..A friend and I were talking about how these are supposed to be the golden years..She said, they're more like *rusty years*..I had to agree..:) I'm learning whole grains are not so great for us as they say..Most of the grains now aren't what we ate when we were younger..They're GMO now..Of course, I know this, but still eat some myself..:)

I'm with you Vix, I still eat a slice of toast, or english muffin etc. (whole grain) almost every day, but minimal. I do eat way more protein, including meats, and beans/lentils (found a yummy way to do lentils)as many fresh vegies as I can get (frozen if low on dough) and fruits. I am so much better, all around health-wise. I also drink a tablespoon of gelatin in herbal tea every day, for my joints, arthritis, hair, skin, nails, and it even helps me sleep better. It is a combo of things though, not any, one thing;)

I too am eating more protein..I'd love the lentil recipe..My down fall is sweets. I'm trying to limit myself to just one day a week now for a treat..I should try the gelatin. Its hard to learn over at my age, but I am trying so I can remain as healthy as possible, and live longer..:)

Now, to get with the exercise..Shhhhh,, don't tell Misty, I haven't been..;) I wish I could get addicted to exercise like I am to the internet.. I'd be skinny..lol

I loved your little poem, Georgia! Cute, clever, and funny!! :) I know its not easy, Georgia, but I live solely on Soc. Security... and I am ok... I am S O glad to be retired... and its not REAL easy living on so little money...but...I really lack for nothing that I actually want ... maybe because its my list of 'wants' has gotten pretty durn short! :love_heart:

OK,first the meds. BP meds cause tiredness-in fact,I was surprised to find out how many meds list that as a side effect. Statin drugs cause a whole bunch of stuff of their own. I finally had to stop taking them. Also,if your`re not eating red meats, you could have low iron. May be worth it to get that checked. But...73 and cleaning houses????? Yeah, that would make you tired.

Hubby and I do not make a lot of money...but we are surviving on his SS and I will be getting mine in November. Like I said..we are not rich. We live from check to check, have roomies, and make do with the small amount he gets. Mine will not be much better, but it will help. Thankfully...our list of wants and needs has gotten minimal. Very minimal. We are happy.

Good morning, kids. I don't feel quite so blah this morning...that's what a good night's sleep does for us.

Yes, indeedy...I do get plenty of protein! Not to worry.

Take a vacation? Can you even imagine how broke I'd be with so little as even a week off if I'm broke now and working? LOL! I do have three days off this week and usually at least one day off during the week, though.

The meds. I'm thinking that as high as my BP was before starting meds, it's probably best not to mess with those. I've been taking them for four years now and take a pretty low dose. The cholesterol meds also a low dose. And good news...get blood work done every six months and lucky me (I think) except for the cholesterol, it comes back with very good results every time...including really good iron levels. Dr. Sawbones approves of my diet so far.

Bettyann, I don't know where that poem came from but remember that during the war my uncle sent home a snapshot of himself sitting on a hill and the poem was penned on the back of the picture. I was just a little kid, but the poem has stuck with me all these years.

Today is the day I'd have had to work for one of the clients that I dumped. Guess what? Not having to go there definitely has something to do with feeling better this morning:)

I am so busy since I went into forced retirement due to husbands illness that I don't know how I ever had time to work!! Since he passed, I work at the local hospital, do a discuss and debate group, do a fitness class, go out for sunday lunch every fortnight, run a bedsit business, go out to coffee twice a weeks with friends, lots of theatre visits and days out.....phew....could do with a rest...!!!!

re:This getting old stuff is exhausting.

Try raising a 16 year old gal and 8 year old boy....Im 75 and couldnt get old if my life depends on it.:D

75 and raising kids. Whew! You're definitely a hero, Davey Jones.

When I was a mere 62 I spent the seven months after my DS and DDIL died with three g'kids ages 12, 13 and 17. It was an all-day thing even during the week while they were in school. I was so busy that I didn't have time to get tired! While they were gone during the day, I was trying to finish some remodeling jobs DS had started in between the never-ending laundry, cleaning and cooking. Evenings were spent supervising homework or at school events. School sports took up Saturdays. Holy cow. How did I manage that?

And yes, living from check to check sucks. It wasn't ever thus so maybe that's why it's so hard for me now.

As I said earlier this morning, just knowing I don't have to clean at "Mrs. Perfect's" house has made a definite improvement in my state of mind today:) Didn't like cleaning that 4400sf house and didn't really much like Mrs. Perfect. Didn't dislike her, just didn't have any warm and fuzzy or sympathetic feelings toward her. It's hard to feel like I'm actually helping somebody who doesn't work inside OR outside the home.

NwLady didn't have to tell me that you haven't been exercising, Vixenator....I just read it. :D Actually as hard as you have been working on your yard, you have exercised many times over. :) Now I can't say the same for myself, but I did walk on my treadmill and lifted my 2 lb weights yesterday. So that will have to do for a couple years....just kidding. Lol

I'm glad to see you are doing better today..Sometimes getting rid of that stress can make a big difference. Also sorry to hear of your losses..

Hehee, thats about right for me..

Hi All,

Just wanted to put this link here for those interested in starting to read about gelatin bennies. I have just been using it for I think 3 or 4 weeks so can't say a lot, it is just what I do now. Formed the habit of drinking it in herbal tea with honey in the evenings. http://wellnessmama.com/7419/12-uses-for-gelatin/

I like number 8. in the list, there are other bennies, but the joint/arthritis stuff is what I am interested in most. Ok, so though thought of my skin becoming nicer is not something I'd turn down. I like the price too, if you aren't to fussy about using Knox instead of something supposedly 100% pure that you either boil the bones yourself, or buy in a package off Amazon or somewhere. I pay 1.58 for a pack of 4, so figuring that out for one month, is about 12 bucks, something like that. One pack is one tbsp.

I just mix a packet into about 8 ounces of water stirring and mixing, while I boil a cup of water. Then I pick out my tea, put some honey in, and then I will put the tea into the taller glass (I do let it cool a bit unless I have a glass-type that won't break from heat). It adds up to almost 16 ounces, and it is a warm drink not hot. You can mix it in anything you like, but as most of you know, you need to dissolve the gelatin in a way it not only mixes, but it doesn't start to gel, ick. More help on that if you want but you ladies can handle it I know;)

The first thing I noticed was sleeping so well, and I didn't pee all night, even after drinking that big glass, but I did go just before bed, and I am usually up til about midnight on these warm, summer nights I love so much:)

Ok, didn't mean to snag the thread Georgia, just wanted this to be here for you all. d0ug will tell you of his success, and I'll tell you this much, he was told he needed surgeries, and he had none, and at 71 he is virtually pain free. They told him he had no cartilage left as well. Hope I am getting that right, but you can check with d0ug;)

Hugs Georgia! Glad your morning is so bright, and you don't have to go to that "client" anymore!! Denise

I try to get ten hours of sleep a night, and I have quit wearing a watch. Listen to "Weightless" the most relaxing music....ZZZZZzzzz.
