Hello everybody,

I will be 52 this year and I have a 13-year old that keeps me feeling young. I have noticed this year a sudden impetus of learning those things that I always wanted to learn but never had time to. I went to university for electrical engineering and later accounting but my secret passion was always mathematics so, I have actually enrolled to go back to school and study for a degree in mathematics (sort of a spur of the moment move!). Also, last weekend I took my son to piano lessons and noticed all the musical instruments displayed in the lobby. I remember taking piano in my teens but I always wished I could play guitar and sing so, I asked about guitar lessons once a week. I am beginning to wonder if this is what they call a mid-life crisis.

I came upon this forum searching for a site for people over 50, such as myself, hoping to see how everyone else copes with life changes. Perhaps also looking for advice and inspiration. I really do not have much time to socialize at all given that I am a single mother and I commute a long distance to work. I think an online forum is just what I need.

Thank you for reading and warm regards to all.

I think the courage to begin new adventures in your life is stupendous, Mirabilis! I also think instead of worrying about a mid-life crisis you should be asking what took you so long. Have fun, and welcome to the forum!

I'll bet the 13 year keeps you feeling young. My wife is 54 and our granddaughter is 15, I'll tell her she should feel young too.

My daughter is 56 and has a 13 yo daughter. Her youngest of 3 boys is about 32. I believe you and my daughter have your work cut out for you. Good for you going back to school. Nobody is too old to learn new things. Life's changes are different for each age group. My daughter thinks I should date - Ha. Not sure I want to do that again. Sounds like as much fun as getting a root canal.

I still do get the threads though and I read them. Even though I'm quiet ^_^. Happy New Year. I actually did manage to stay up until midnight, drink a glass of champagne and play some Jenga with my son and my guests.
