Like most people, I am also struggling with weight loss. I was 210 pounds, came down to 160 before last Thanksgiving, and am 170 pounds at 87 years. I have not yet given up coming further down. My ideal would be 150 pounds.
Exercise, dieting, will-power, and no stress are the essential ingredients of weight loss for me. Most people fail short of will-power and the inability to avoid stress. So, I am walking every day for two hours with my 3 Boxer dogs for stress control and better health.
Walking at sunrise is so uplifting when you hear the birds singing. They have so little but seem to be so happy. We could learn from them. For your mental health and sanity, be satisfied with what you have and donโt try to keep up the Johnsons.
The stomach is trainable for the better or worse. After two weeks of eating smaller portions and less frequently, I start feeling full even with smaller portions. Just one cup of oats in the morning, a small can of sardines at noon, and a greater meal around six in the evening. I am fasting between 6 pm and 8 am. I am also taking nutritional supplements.
It helps to avoid calorie-rich food, and eating instead fiber-rich veggies and snack on fruits.
I used to eat for all the wrong reasons, but not because I was hungry. I now have learnt that it is perfectly all right to feel a little bit hungry at times. You have to control your stomach, and not the other way around (and that requires will-power.)
My main incentive for losing weight is that I want to reach the magic number of 100 (thirteen more years to go) while staying mentally and physically in a relatively good shape.
Last not least, a positive attitude towards life helps -- today is the first day of the rest of my life -- God loves you and so do I -- Today is the day God has made for you and me -- happy is who forgets what cannot be changed -- Niebuhrโs Serenity Prayer -- be grateful -- and so on.
Well, the above are merely my personal experiences. PS, on the first picture: no, I don't have a big belly; the T-shirt is hanging out loose.
