What are you cooking or baking today?

This is neither cooking nor baking, but....

Now that we're knee deep in summer heat, I've shifted to my icing my third cup of coffee. I prep it early (including cream and sugar). The night before if I think of it. Let it cool to room temperature, then refrigerate it.

I put it in the freezer for an hour or so before I'll want to start drinking it. I even have coffee ice cubes in the freezer to help keep it cold without diluting it.

Love iced coffee in hot weather!

I just bought a bottle of cold brew in Aldis. Haven't tried it yet. I grew up on iced coffee in New England and love it.
In the south it's sweet tea. Yuck. So sweet!

I'm not a fan of sweet tea either. Grew up in the Northeast then moved to Los Angeles so never developed the taste for it.

One of my sons makes cold brew every few days and uses it to make his coffee every morning. I'm not that persnickety about coffee; the Keurig does me just fine. Should mention that I drink decaf iced coffee - caffeine after noon is generally a no-go for me.

Tonight's dinner will be (it's in the oven right now) fresh chicken legs cut in pieces with our new set of fantastic knives. It was so easy...

Covered in my homemade BBQ sauce, ketchup, honey, spices and herbs, 30 minutes at 190°C and then batch of chips. Will be eating later, since we'd ran out of chips. Hey it happens. Later!

Update: daughter brought a fudge sauce cake and UHT cream. Surprise dessert. Yummy!

I drink iced coffee almost every day....love it!

Finally got hold of some cardamon pods for Middle Eastern style coffee (hot).

Sounds crazy, but I have beef stewing in my cast iron pot in a low oven with sliced mushrooms, onions, carrots, garlic, bay, fresh rosemary and a little basil. It was so cool here yesterday and this morning I couldn't help it. I will freeze portions, but tonight doggie and I will have fresh ocean perch, and the never ending broccoli.

I don't use a crockpot that much, but I do like them. Especially if we are having a large group over because I can keep sides warm in a buffet line.

I've been trying to use it with some pot roast recipes I have when we are outside working so I don't have to worry about checking on them. I also have a chicken rotisserie that cooks chicken perfectly without having to check on it for a couple of hours when we are busy too.

@Pappy, that recipe sounds good. Let us know how it works out.

Made up some Waldorf Salad-ish with some of the fruit kicking around in my the fridge: apples, grapes, a mango (yum), nectarines and a plum, plus celery, chopped walnuts and dried cranberries chopped very small.

Mixed a little Greek yogurt, some light sour cream, a bit of light mayo and a little cinnamon and stirred in the fruit.

The yogurt and sour cream are leftover from food I made for recent company. I'd rather use it up bit-by-bit than pitch it. (Non-dairy yogurt & sour cream is my preference.)

Sort of cheated today by using some leftovers in cooking. Hubby made extra pasta earlier & put them in the fridge. So I had some left over thawed out burger that I fried with onion & added garlic powder, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, Italian seasoning & salt/pepper simmering for a while & then added a little heavy cream to cut the acid. I reheated the pasta & put on the sauce.

Baked some french fries in the oven. Topped with with shredded cheddar & bacon & put it back in for a few to melt the cheese. Then I put chopped green onion on top with some Chipotle BBQ sauce & sour cream.
Awe, excellent "Loaded Chips Recipe". I've tried quite a few found in YouTube channel. The Philly steak cheese ones are amazing... Here:

I have a venison roast in the crockpot.
My Venison experience or what I'd call Moose/Deer Meat. Back in the 80s working for government, had a coworker who's husband was into hunting these big beautiful animals.

I never mentioned that I was against this sport. Nevertheless, she comes in one day stating to all of us that her husband and friends had caught too many and if we wanted some frozen meat.

She'd made a sheet for us to sign if we were interested. Knowing that we both wanted to try, I signed up.

All I got was about a pound of Venison cubes. Everyone else got huge steaks. Being polite, I never asked why I just got diced deer and by the time we got home. It had defrosted and smelled bad. So, I still don't know what it tastes like.

Reading a blog last night, the author talked about the best chocolate cake she’d ever eaten. It had me salivating so today I looked at my downloaded recipes and made one. I’d never made that one (2018) so I’ll see how it tastes. I’m not expecting it to meet the hype of the one she had. This was pretty simple - all in one bowl.

I'm going to try some of those. Especially the Jalapeno Popper Chicken. I make Jalapeno Poppers stuffed with cream cheese & wrapped in bacon quite a bit. Thanks for sharing! 😸

I guess we're used to it. It just tastes like meat. I use a lot of seasoning and bacon fat. The fat is because it is lean and would be dry.

My husband jokes that deer in Ohio are cows with skinny legs. They eat a lot of corn & soybean, so they are very tasty; like lean beef. To avoid any gaminess, we get our meat de-boned. The burger is lean so they also add some beef suet to that. Some of our burger was turned into a summer sausage which was excellent. If we are lucky enough to get another deer this year, we'll get more of that.

I know the mule deer my husband brought back from Wyoming was very gamey as they eat a lot of sage brush. I'm not sure what the deer in your area feast on, but their diet will be reflected in the meat.
