Lovely sunny day. Gotta wait in for a delivery... no ETA yet... then I'll decide what to do.. I have several things that need doing. One is to take stuff from the garden to the recycle centre ...another to cut the hedges, again grown very straggly due to the recent rains... another is grocery shopping... I'll make my mind up later...

Right..I've got the hedges done.. thankfully because I keep them well trimmed, the stragglers aren't too much of a problem... so I can get them done in an hour. It's very hot outside ..it's only 75 but after the last 2 weeks of 65 deg it feels really hot especially when manually working..🫠😅

I had hoped to get the ETA of my delivery by now, but nope, so I still can't go anywhere.

Wow, what a storm we had last evening.

We didn’t lose power at our house (though the lights flickered several times) but Ed has neither power nor water at his house (electric pump). His daughter is down staying for a few days and having to brush her teeth with H2O from the coffee maker reservoir 🤪

Had a great time with older granddaughter yesterday…. She is interested in all things Japanese and so we watched a YouTube video if native speakers teaching about basic phrases.

(One nice thing about YouTube videos is you can slow them down to 3/4 or even 1/2 speed to be able to get things you might otherwise miss— in this case the intricacies of pronunciation). She is a much quick study at picking up languages than I am.

So today is knit, read (reading club meeting tomorrow), clean, cook, shop— sheesh, I’m tired already lol 😂

Has anyone besides me noticed how early morning gets here?

🚙 🥐
No, it's coming later now that I'm fully retired. Hang in there! :)

Wow, what a storm we had last evening.
Here too. We are having more storms at night than we usually do. This one wasn't really bad, just enough to wake up.

I have so many things to choose from today but I must do some of the ones I don't like before I can dip into fun things. Oh, to be a kid again. 👵

Today I do Nothing.

I've had plumbers, electricians and other people in and out of my apartment for the last two weeks for upgrades, repairs etc etc. Mostly dealing with new HVAC.
Now I can get my living room back to normal...been spending most of my time in bedroom.
Fortunately my PC desk is there so at least had some diversion.
Worn out with it all and it is not finished. Balcony repair starts soon so more work for me and other living disruptions.

A word of advice to anyone planning to move to apartment living.
Do not move into an old building.
I have been in this one for seven years and there has been constant repair work both inside and out.
Some of them major and definitely disruptive to our lifestyle.

So yes again ...I do nothing today but please myself

@Mizmo, the good news is that they didn’t renovict you while doing all of this and then raise the rent. Get a good rest today; you’ll need to throw a party soon to show off your fancy digs.

Oh the rent increase will happen for sure. I know the landlords are allowed but haven't been able to find the max allowable increase yet.
Once the balcony work is completed I will invite you all to come and view the new 26 story condo which has blocked my view of the lake.
Just heard that it has six underground parking levels and will have an outdoor swimming pool.

quote...
"The 4th floor outdoor terrace and 20th floor Sky Lounge include a swimming pool an Whirlpool, fire pits, indoor/outdoor Dining and Bar areas, über-stylish lounging, glam indoor spaces and Fitness Centre, all designed to maximize the gorgeous lake views."

I have an excellent view of that terrace so you visitors will have fun watching.nodding.gif

We had an adventure on our way into town yesterday!

We had just left, and hadn't even gotten to the main road yet when Dio said: "look in your mirror at the hawk on the edge of the road!!! We just went past him!"

Sure enough, there was a hawk sitting there! Suddenly, Dio stopped. He said "something's wrong!". He backed up, got out, and walked right up to it.....it couldn't fly!

Dio has taken care of all different kinds of orphaned and injured birds his whole life, and this was not his first hawk. So he picked it up and handed it to me, then we headed back home.

The first thing that Dio did was to give the hawk water from the hose....he sure wanted that! Every time Dio stopped to see if it was enough, the hawk would bite the hose for more!!

Once he was finally done drinking, he was put into our live trap (in the shade) so that he could rest without anything bothering him.

From there, we finally headed into town. I'm going to post pictures in the Diary section.

Hi, kids. I'm home.

I've sprayed the cannas for leaf rollers. They've all but destroyed a 50 ft long "fence" of cannas, and I'm not happy about it. The only thing that works is Sevin, really wicked stuff. I don't like having to use it because I worry about the bees that like the flowers.

The weatherliars are saying more splash-and-dash rain later this afternoon and thunderstorms tonight. Rain all day tomorrow. Surrrrre. It's a day off for me.

@Trila Poor bird! I hope 🐐man is good enough at doctoring that Mr. Hawk mends and is able to continue his journey to wherever it was that he was going. Or maybe Mr. Hawk is Ms. Hawk?

ETA: I just looked at the pix...how do we know if he's a he or a she? In any case, sounds to me like Howard is suffering from a human ailment called "entitled"! He might decide that the living is so good at your place that he becomes a pet:)

Mr or Mrs is not known right now, but my friend has named him Howard. He seems strong and healthy, no wounds anywhere. He can fly, but he just won't! Check out the pictures in my diary "Howard the rescue Hawk"

Eclectic day here today a little bit.... got the hedges cut... then my phone stopped automatically uploading pics from my iphone to the cloud... so I sent ages trying every fix I could to no avail.. and I still don't know what the problem is. In the meantime.. still waiting for my delivery at past 4pm.. I went out and mowed the lawns... and cut back the roses... verrry hot work

.... then I loaded up the car with lots of old Big garden pots, and trugs, etc... ready to take to the Waste (Tip) tomorrow..

Still waiting for the delivery, I baked a chicken and asparagus pie for dinner, and as I sat down to eat that .. Daughter. rang..she's so much more clued up when it comes to the Smart phones and computers generally

She suggested a fix ... and so I tried that.. and it's helped me send the pictures to air drop, but it's still not sending them automatically to the Cloud!! 😖😖

6.20pm before the delivery arrived finally... ..so I could have gone out earlier..if I;d known he was going to be so late

Tomorrow is going to be hotter still , .. so I need to get out and get some stuff done... apparently the beaches were packed out today... not urorised, it's relly the first bit of sun we've had since the schools broke up for holidays

This morning when I woke up around 5:45, it was raining outside, temp was 65,waited until it stopped before went on a short walkThe sun came out around 9:30, so a 'spur of the moment' my long walk of the day was 6 blocks to/from local grocery store,Price Rite When I got home, I iced my knee. I didn't have the energy to go for afternoon walk because it became breezy

It's 9.40pm... I decided to go and do some grocery shopping ..at 8.30pm just as it was starting to get dark..... left home at 8.30pm... drove to the nearby town centre did the shopping, got the pharmacist.. drove home in the dark, ages since I drove in the dark.. ( roads were very empty for a change )... and was back home one hour later... not bad going if I say so myself.. ..AND..I got a whole cart full of shopping.. (y)

Yesterday I had to reschedule my dental appointment. I’d waited for two months and they offered me one of two times today. Since I’d decided I’d walk, that’s what I did even though it decided to rain. It was refreshing breathing damp air here for the first time in ages. DH picked me up and we went out for lunch. Unimpressive service.
