What are you doing today 2023

Still doing spring cleaning, but I'm running out of enthusiasm. It took me 2 hours to clear the things away from the baseboard heaters in the dining area so I could clean them, then ran into the problem of getting the covers off. These just wouldn't budge. I also found out that the corner cabinet left by the previous owner is not a one piece item, it's in 2 parts! I had to remove all the contents of the corner cupboard, radio cabinet hutch another hutch and 2 plant stands in order to move them away from the baseboards, then reverse the process. A lot of lifting shoving, climbing and dusting. Then things never go back the same way as before.

I had been doing just 30 minutes of exercise this month, because of winter blahs. Since 15 minutes of that is stretches, it seemed pretty pathetic. Oh well, at least I maintained the exercise habit, instead of quitting. Today I did 45 minutes. I'll see if I can keep doing that for the rest of the month.

The payment system for the laundry room has not been fixed. So I need to go to the laundromat -- who knows for how long? This will require some schedule changes and other changes. I have lots of clothes and bedding, so I won't run out in between trips.

This afternoon, I'm not sure. Maybe I'll clean and vacuum the bedroom, and change the bedding. But it's a beautiful day (for winter that is); maybe I should walk to the store and buy some ice cream.

What a life, huh? When I was young I wasn't cleaning and vacuuming all the time, and I survived.

When I first started going to the laundromat, it cost $3.75 to do a small load in the front loader. The last time I checked, it was $5.25. Can't say for sure what it is now. I only go now when the bed comforters need washing because I can use the front loader. I think a top loader (like what I have at home) would be too rough on them.

Afternoon my dear friends... really dull day here, it rained this morning, but now it's grey and cloudy.

I've been clearing out my closet of clothing which I've kept in the hope of fitting into them, but I'm never going to be that skinny again, so they have to go... not sure whether to sell them..some are very new.. or just donate the whole lot.. .
Try selling them on Vinted or Poshmark.

I haven't exactly redeemed myself for not having taken care of the gardenias and the camellia, but I did fertilize all the bulb plants with bone meal. We're going to get a punishing rain tonight so the fertilizer should do the iris and glads and oriental lilies some good.

I thought I'd take a chance and see if the other laundry payment method (paying by card) was working. It wasn't working before, which was why I switched to paying by app.

This involved walking UP the street to another apartment building. Fortunately the card machine was working, and I was able to load up. So I'll be able to do my laundry in my building.

Then I walked DOWN the street to the store, and bought the ice cream.

It was 11°F (-12°C). Over my indoor clothes I wore just a little fleece vest, plus hat, mitts, and neck scarf. It's amazing how comfortable these northern winters are, because there's very little wind in this particular location. Anyone considering a move to a cold place, don't consider the temperatures alone; look at how windy it is too.

Today was laundry day. I also disinfected several masks, including some of the ones my honorary daughter custom made for me. Tonight was the Black History reception that displayed a tribute to my husband among others. We almost didn't go. Something just told me to reach out to our nephew (husband's side) to see if he knew about it and was going. Figured he did because he's on the police force and on Facebook were the event flyers were displayed. He told me that there had been a threat against one of the politicians and the organizer told him that the powers that be wanted to cancel the reception. When I got back to our nephew later on, he said nothing would be taking place in that building tonight. But a little later, my son decided to reach out to the organizer, a friend of his, himself and he said they were there. Since it had already started and I had put on my comfortable house clothes, I had to hurry and change so we could get there in time.

The displays were much better than I expected. There were poster boards that stood as tall, if not taller than me, with history makers in our city grouped into categories, as well as some of the city's history. Here are my son (left) and one of my honorary sons. who is in the organization that spearheaded the event. He and my son are very good friends; they grew up together in our complex. They loved this painting of Mr. Magic, a deejay we all listened to back in the day and moved it higher so they could take a picture by it. The second picture is of the organizers of the event. They told us that it took longer than expected to get the graphics for the poster boards ready, that's why they weren't up when I went the first time. They also plan to hold more events and add more honorees in the future. I also got to speak with one of my cousins who is a councilwoman and was also instrumental in getting this event off the ground. I'm glad we didn't miss it !

The pictures I took didn't come out the best, so I asked my son to take a couple with his phone. The poster board my husband is featured on is one of them. He was supposed to text them to me this evening but hasn't done it yet. Of course I'll have to do some editing so as to maintain a measure of anonymity. I'll either post them in this thread or my Black History 2023 thread when they are ready. I would message unedited photos to members who already know my real name if requested.

@OneEyedDiva, so happy you were able to the attend the event. The world is just out of hand right now. I do not blame the possibility that the event might be cancelled if a threat was made. The most important thing is the safety of all. I look forward to seeing the other photos you can share.
