No, you're not the only one and no, you don't need therapy. I am also not interested in the super bowl. In fact, when a commercial starts about the super bowl, I change the channel because I don't care about it and I get tired of hear Super Bowl this, Super Bowl that every time I turn around.
I’m in the same club…..no Super Bowl or anything that relates to it or any other sport….bring on…..no sports.

The deal is, I turned 70 a few months ago and DH's 70th b-day is in a few weeks. Could cry alone in our beer or throw a party. Since you folks already know how much I love a party it's no surprise which way I went.

1970s theme with music and food.
Hoping people will dress up. Most can find band or concert tees, whether in their own closet or in a thrift store. Heck, I'll even break out the lava lamp!

It'll be an appetizer and dessert party.
Appetizers I'm considering:
baby quiches
Waldorf salad
stuffed mushrooms
Italian meatballs
mini calzones (not a 70s dish, but a fan favorite among friends and family)
hot crab dip with Triscuits
Lipton onion soup mix dip
Knorr vegetable soup mix spinach dip
Fritos and ruffled potato chips
cheese ball
celery sticks stuffed with something or other
crudites

Desserts:
Amaretto mousse
brownies
carrot cake

What do y'all think?
Fabulous Star! I wish I could come. 😛

I'm just popping in to say hello, and I hope everyone is doing ok.

I have the day off today. The roller rink is the only place that I known of, that closes for Supper Bowl Sunday.....and the game doesn't even start until well after any skating parties would be over!!!

Andy has showed up for his "all over body massage". He's such a good kitty...until he gets caught being naughty!

It's chilly out right now, but sunny. We are expecting a high of around 60°F/10°C, I'm not sure what I'll get into today, but right now I'm thinking that it involve working on braches....it's a never ending job!

Thanks for thinking of me and asking! I'm very happy to be in my place but I wouldn't go so far as to say I feel settled in yet. A lot of things haven't found their "right place" yet, such as it took me awhile to find where I'd put the new package of soap bars that I'd bought and put away.

Since I don't have any pots or pans I haven't tried to use the stove at all (except since it is a glass top one I've been using it like extra counter space). I long for the misc items I used to have (paper towel holder, measuring cups, clocks, marker pen, binder clips, filing folders in a filing cabinet, etc etc), but I'm getting used to doing without and letting those things come in the future.

I don't have enough furniture yet to avoid hearing an echo when I sneeze. But I did acquire one little piece that I found downstairs in the trash area last week! The top is all scuffed up, but insides of the drawers are very clean. It is a nightstand I think, but it is a little shorter than my bed so I decided to, for now, continue using the taller roomier folding table that I had gotten from Walmart. I'm using the little nightstand in the living room to put my purse and hiking bag on. I relocated the cardboard box I was using for that to the empty dining room and it is now in use by the cat as a short-cat-assist up to the window ledge. Baby steps!

I guess I should start considering some little trips, I'll put that on my mental list (behind 'learn my way to and from Walmart without needing GPS' ha ha - tho I blame google maps because it keeps changing its instructions, presumably to avoid traffic slowdowns, but it makes me feel perennially lost).
HoneyNut, you might look into local Buy Nothing groups. My DIL is in one via Facebook and the amount of stuff she's gotten for herself (and me) has been astounding. For me, it's been all manner of very gently used toys, outerwear clothing, and equipment that my baby grandson needs for just a few months before he's onto the next stage. (Watching him three days a week means I also need a full set of almost everything.)

DH & I replaced two TVs about a year ago with smart TVs. Both were in perfect working order, they were just a p-in-a to operate with streaming services. Rather than carting them down to Salvation Army, we asked DIL to post them on her BN group to repay some of the good karma spread our way by other generous souls.

One was taken by a single mom who finally moved into a two bedroom apt. She was hoping to put a TV in her bedroom because most evenings her teen son monopolized the one in the living room, as one could easily imagine. The other by a woman whose MIL just moved into assisted living but during the move her TV's screen was broken. She arranged day and time for them to pick up. Both women came exactly on time, and were extremely grateful to receive the TVs.

Buy Nothing groups exist throughout the country (perhaps the world?) and are a terrific way to use stuff and pass it along to others who might need it. If you're not already on FB, you might consider joining to take advantage of your local group. People offer everything you could imagine and then some. Large items and small - all free for the taking.

Sigh.... why do people get their undies in a twist over Americans referring to our game as football? What does it matter? We call car storage spaces a trunk not a boot. Big deal. When a Brit refers to a car boot, I know what he means, just as he knows what I mean by my car trunk.

Lorries there are trucks here. Biscuits there are cookies here. Flats are apartments. Hobs are stovetops. Chips are French Fries. Lifts are elevators. I just learned that pants are underpants and trousers are pants.

And football in most of the world is what we call soccer.

I'm no longer a football fan (turned off by the many CTE injuries to these young men) but will sort of watch the game while sort of reading a book, as has been my habit over the last few years. I do watch the commercials though, because many are clever and/or amusing.

DH & I watched professional baseball, football and hockey while our kids were growing up and even had season tickets to the LA Kings when the amazing Wayne Gretzky was part of the team. One of our sons became sports, particularly hockey, obsessed. It got to the point where I would snap off the TV, insist he do his homework RIGHT NOW, and remind him that nobody would pay him to know everything there was to know about hockey.

Fast forward to his college years. He worked part-time for a small private school in the after-care area (child supervision while kids waited for their parents to pick them up after work). Son has always been affable and sometimes chatted up the parents.

One day a dad came while son was working car line. As the kid was gathering belongings, dad asked son what he planned to do after finishing school. Son said, he was interested in sports journalism, hockey being his particular favorite. Dad says, do you know who I am? Son says, sure... you're XYZ's dad.

Turns out dad was also VP of Fox Sports West. Timing sometimes being perfection, FSW was in great need of a hockey specialist (hockey isn't/wasn't nearly as popular as other sports in So Cal so a local who knew professional hockey well and was into sports journalism was a bit of a unicorn). Son interviewed and was hired for a PAID internship. This was 20 years ago. Son has been in sports TV ever since.

Two lessons I learned from this.
1. One never knows what opportunities may arise to match someone's passions.
2. Professional sports are a very big business, far bigger than most imagine.

I'm home from the fair....footsore, exhausted and broke. But...we had the time of our lives. We spent 8 hours there yesterday and pretty much let it be "child-driven.

There were a large number of free children's activities and the Littles had a riot., from playing in a pit of corn to milking a fake cow to planting seeds. Much, much more.

And ooooh, the fair food!

@StarSong
Your son--how fantastic!
Isn't that a great story? When we would do big school uniform sales, sometimes while kids were in fitting rooms their parents would moan about their children spending the summer obsessed by video games, the TV, a single sport or extra-curricular activity. I'd commiserate for a moment, then tell them about my son and how humbling it was to realize that sometimes the universe knows better than I did as his parent. It opened their eyes to the world of future possibilities some of these "obsessions" might offer.

I started spring cleaning. I've mentioned before how dusty my new house is. I took down the curtains in my bedroom and shook them out (outdoors of course). I don't know how long they were hanging there as they were left by the previous owner, but there was enough dust to grow grass along the top edges (something I didn't see from my normal viewpoint). I also took the baseboard covers off in my computer room and one bathroom and vacuumed the fins. The bathroom one was pretty dusty. It was a challenge to figure out how to get the covers off and even more fun to put them back on. Lots more to do. There are 9 baseboards in the house.

Today, so far…..usual cleaning chores…..brought some sewing supplies up from downstairs, to sort through…..I know…..maybe some are thinking, MORE sewing stuff 😏😉😀☺️.
All the didly things…..pins, needles, safety pins, zippers, cording, bobbins, and so on and so on.
Over 50 years of sewing and always keeping a large amount of these things.
Don’t need near the amount now.
Extras are going to my sewing friends.

Quite often my sewing friends and I swap and trade stuff, through the years, fabric notions, etc.
You know, things you purchase……might need that some day, etc…..great sales…..stock up.

Another great day out, sunny and above 0c. Getting myself and my guys out in some of the suns’ happiness.

Today has been a horrible murky grey day... one where the lights have gone on in the house at 4pm instead of 5.30pm...

Got a few chores done, not much needed done but got the waste bins emptied etc..and got the dinner prepared and in the Oven.. Honey Baked Gammon and Roast potatoes..

Got the laundry in the machine.. but this is the 2nd time in 2 weeks my washer has stopped Mid-cycle and refuses to go on, and I've had to dance around it, trying to get it to start again with difficulty. I think it might be time to replace it, I've had it probably 10 or 12 years, and it's just a Bosch, so not hugely expensive at the time I bought it , so it probably doesn't owe me anything..

Been to church... made the mistake of wearing some pumps (shoes, if pumps isn't a universal term) that apparently have spread or my feet have shrunk. I had to walk up and down the aisle 3-4 times and every time, the shoes would start to come off; on the last lap I ended up kicking the darn things off about 3/4 of the way to my seat and just carrying the things, muttering, "I give up," which got a chuckle from the back of the congregation =P

Now having bean soup and coffee. Outside, the wind is up, the temp is down and Whoever Left the Backdoor of Canada open, will you please Shut It!! Brrrr

I bought an Amana fridge 17 years ago for around six hundred. During those years, it needed service 3 times, each costing $200. I wonder what I'll do if it breaks next time especially if I can't get the same repairman.

@ holly,,Think about what you want your washer to do,, before you go shopping.
I've gone through 2 washers in as many years (2yrs).
Saw an estate ad that had a washer listed.

Its older , has an agitator in it,, I don't expect to wash kind size bedding in it.
Price was right $75.

I will admit I'm not real happy with it ,, but it does the job.

About month or so after I bought that one,, looking at Craigslist.
Found another washer that sounded like what I had been looking for.

I didn't mention it to hubby.
Washer was 50 miles away ,,might have been a scam or piece of junk.

I wouldn't buy a used appliance unless I knew the person selling it. Too many scammers out there.

I spent most of my morning cleaning out the cupboards under the kitchen sink. Its amazing the amount of stuff you don't need can build up in the back where the light doesn't hit. On a good note, I finally found the cast iron 2-burner griddle I thought I lost 20 years ago, and the cornstick pan too. Bad note; both are rusty and I have to sand them down.

My old refrigerator was 21 years old when it began to fail last year. Bought a new one, along with electric stove (also 21 years old and failing), paid them off in less than a year, and will do the same for the washer and dryer this spring, as they too are 21 years old, Dryer quit for the 3rd time a while back. Washer is still mostly working.

thanks Sliverfox, but I won't be buying a used machine, thankfully I can afford not to.. (y)
