What are you doing today 2023

Today, after dusting and finding places to put the couple of items leftover from yesterday, I will relax, watch T.V., play my games and hopefully hit the piano keys again. I worked like I had a job yesterday! By 9:10 a.m. when we left to go to Costco, I had washed out Deja's litter box and added fresh litter and reorganized the storage closet (again) because it was too hard to reach the toilet paper bundle once it was down to 3 packs. I also pulled out some items I need from the storage tote in there. Walking through Costco is always good exercise. My son commented that I was walking kind of fast. I like to get what I need and get out before it gets too busy, but of course they move things around so one has to walk around a bit.

I spent more at Costco yesterday than I've ever spent during a single trip....$200 and we don't buy meat. So I had lots of stuff to make room for which necessitated reorganizing the freezer and rotating stock. I made labels for the new boxes I'm using to store things. The last Chewy box I got came in handy because it's long and low, so it fit nicely between the hamper and my suitcases (in their new location) in the storage closet. I did other little nit picky things that were essential just the same. Oddly enough, even though I was very tired last night, I decided to play the piano and practiced the songs from my album. It gave my mind and fingers a good work out because I hadn't played them in quite some time. After I ate dinner, I fell asleep before I got a chance to post yesterday's activities.

Hopefully, playing through another champion chess game with my son. We did this yesterday and it was so freaking much fun! Some famous games can be found online (Chessgames.com) and my son and I chose one yesterday, Kasimdzhanov vs Kasparov (2005), copied the move notations to a blank page and played through the game.

The real fun was trying to anticipate what the next move would be before checking the sheet. We were frequently wrong and baffled by the actual move, but so elated the times we got it right! Man, that's a rush. LOL

Later we watched a youtube video of Spencer Finegold (National Master) playing through, discussing, showing alternatives, asking (he had a live class) for move anticipations and explaining the actual moves. So interesting.

I am not a chess master; actually spatial thinking has not been my strong suit, but I love this game. That's the thing about chess, you don't have to be great at it to enjoy it.

Bonus: Playing is helping my spatial thinking skills (and I'm sure a bunch of other brain areas). So, you know, cool. :)

You were a busy lady, yesterday! :)

I've never learned to play Chess.. I should have really, but I did manage to send my daughter to learn with a friend of mine who played Chess when she was age 8.. but I never learned, just don't have the patience tbh... but when I hear stories like yours I wish I had.. :D

I'm still sewing. After I hemmed 3 shirts to a better length, I started looking at clothes I don't wear and asking why.
I have a nice summer windbreaker type jacket that I love but the elastic on the bottom is too tight. That makes it ride up and when you wear it open the sides scrunch way up so it's too open. I hadn't done anything because the elastic is sewn in but I took it apart and took the elastic out. Perfect!
Next, I have two Land's End striped t-shirts that I keep but never wear. They have horizontal stripes and crew neck which is not flattering on me. I'm turning them into V neck, and I can see already it changes the whole look.
Yay, new clothes!

You still can, @hollydolly. :)

I know what you mean about having the patience as that was hard for me at first (for months, really), the thinking through moves, tracking all the pieces on the board (and the squares, which I don't do yet), etc. It's a lot. But it's so much fun as well.

The thing is, chess seems a simple game on the face of it; the rules are clear enough. But when you get into it, it turns out to be a multi-layered, beautiful, passionate, bloody, grueling, exhilarating game of war.

I sew as well and, what @hollydolly said, respect.

Yeah, I get a little excited about chess, I know. LOL 🙃

DD rang , she said they got snow in the morning where she lives .. (70 miles north of me)... and she was at work and got excited at how heavy it was falling.. by afternoon the rain had come and washed it all away and by the time it was going home time the sun was out and everywhere was dry. She said it was very surreal.. like none of it had ever happened..:D

@StarSong..90 ?.. Nine Zero ?.. wow, are you having another shindig ?...eta ..actually 96
My partner lives in Suffolk and described the same thing to me. I think he was a little sad about the snow not hanging around for a while.

Staying home and being miserable. My gum from where I had an implant installed has been hurting all weekend. I called the surgeon that placed it in the jaw bone and he called in a prescription for me. When I saw that it was for Hydrocodone, I refused it. I told him NO narcotics. I am using Advil liquid gels only with very little relief. Tomorrow, he said to be there by about 7:45 and he will take me first.

The Roaring Twenties......the time of illicit gambling, The Charleston, flapper girls, gangsters and prohibition! With feather boas, head bands, fedora hats, cigarette holders and black & white movies. The 1920's often depicts the gangster lifestyle as being luxurious, with fabulous clothes, glamorous ladies and fancy cars. We therefore ask you to dress to impress as we party the night away in true old fashioned style.

Today I have been booking our tickets to the sort of events that we love. This one won't be taking place until October, but you can be sure that tickets will be sold out long before then. Robert Redford in his pink suit, I will leave to others, I shall wear my Zoot suit whilst my lady has a brilliant flapper girl costume that she made for herself.

The date is now on the calendar with the other vintage events.

I'm so sorry. It's awful to be in pain like that and when your doctors don't pay attention to your requests. I hope your appointment goes well tomorrow and you are feeling better soon.

Good morning. My region does not celebrate DST. Lucky me.

I'm up relatively early today, so I guess I'll be able to do all my exercises. I found an audio version of our book club selection, so I can listen to that while I exercise.

Trivia game this afternoon. Talk to my language partner tonight.

The other day, I finally cleaned my bedroom and changed the sheets. So I'll do laundry today, if I have time.

I'm bad at chess, but I thought it was for other reasons (e.g., I'm not competitive). I never thought about the spatial thinking aspect. I'm bad at that too!

@horseless carriage You and Mrs. Horseless are true fashion plates! I love looking at your pix.

The rain has stopped for now and might not even come back (today). I could handle that for sure. It's very cold here (48F), not going to get any warmer today but not going to get much colder tonight. Tomorrow night? Let's just say that I have to cover the flowers tomorrow night and Tuesday night. Sigh. If the lord's willing and the creeks don't rise, as we used to say in Texas, we won't have frost again this season.

Sir's mother is very ill. Sounds like it was an aneurysm. They've operated, stopped the bleeding, drained what was there, as of last night she had opened her eyes, but that's all:(. He wasn't at work yesterday or today and not expected to be for a while at least. He only just moved her here last summer. Fingers crossed🤞 that she improves and can be well enough to go to rehab but don't expect that to even be a possibility for a good while.

Retired Lady and I are holding down the fort. Thank heaven that she has years and years of experience as a bakery manager because I'm ill-equipped to manage anything! This is inventory weekend, and it's done from midnight tonight to 8am tomorrow morning. Retired Lady knows that "No" is a complete sentence and told them she cannot work those hours. An exception was made so she's doing the bakery inventory today. Way to go, Retired Lady!

DD and DSIL have been helping DGD get moved. This morning all her furniture was moved. The roomie's BF was there and helped DSIL carry it all in and set it up, DSIL got the Ring doorbells/cameras connected and DGD got her work station put together and connected.

DD says there are maybe two more loads of stuff to be moved, mostly closet stuff. Nice thing about that is that DGD has been through all her clothes and filled bags for Goodwill with clothes that no longer fit or she doesn't wear for whatever reason so the only stuff to move is what she actually wears. They are going to stop at Goodwill on the way back to the new place to drop off the donations.

And now I gotta rest. Missing out on an hour's sleep last night has left me 🥱🥱

I haven't played chess since I was about 30.
