What are you doing today 2023

Just checking in before younger granddaughter arrives in about 20 min to stay with me while Mom works.

The deer have re-discovered my oakleaf hydrangea, so have had to rig up a way to have bloodmeal closer to the top of the bush (vs spread on the ground). It ain't fancy, but I think it will do the trick

My daughter and I are planning a trip to the beach Tuesday with younger granddaughter. She's a water-baby, so should be a good day. As all three of us are red-heads, there will be lots of suncreen used.

Ed is recouping slowly. Bless him. Tears my heart out to see him in a debilitated state but no one's body lasts forever. I took a home-cooked meal with me yesterday and sat with him; he just wants to hold my hand and have me near.

Y'all have a good Sunday!

Good morning, everyone! Not sure what's wrong with me this morning. I overslept, finally got up, the cats were about to turn me in to animal control because I took so long to feed them. 🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛ I'm on slow time and dragging around, for sure today.

Yesterday turned out to be all about clothes. Got some things sorted out and did several loads of laundry. Today I want to clean the linen closet if I can get motivated. If not, I suppose it will still be here on Monday.

Hope you are all having a great day and have more energy that I do.

Packing for vacation. I leave tonight on the redeye to Florida. Fishing and visiting trip. May have limited ability to post whilst away.
Have a great, fun trip and catch a lot of fish!

Today I'm taking all the eye drops for tomorrows cataract surgery, and trying not to be nervous about it.
That's how I was for the first surgery, then very relaxed for the second after the first went so well. I'm thinking the same will be true for you. This surgery has a really good success rate.

I'm afraid that means nothing to me.. is that in the South ?
EST (Eastern Standard Time) is the entire East coast of the USA,
North to South. So includes Maine/New England/NY/New Jersey/ all the way South to Florida.
Lots of States.
And even many that are farther inland, and might border on those that are along the East Coast (Atlantic Ocean coast.)
It's a fairly wide swath, North to South. EST.

Many of our SF members. But for sure, not all!!
The rest of the USA members, would be even more hours behind the UK time.

For example, it is 10 a.m. now, in EST, up and down the Atlantic coastline;
while @StarSong might not have gotten up or has barely started her day, yet, being on the West Coast of the USA.

I love the maps like @Supernatural posted a link;
I also find it interesting and nice to have the more personal connections,
from sometimes sharing members' times when posting. :geek:

To sum up the info about USA time zones, for @hollydolly
and anyone else who might be interested and who live on other continents....

I live in the Northeast corner of the USA, not awfully far from the Canadian border;
Yet I am in the same time zone, as @Pappy in Florida, which is the Southeast corner of the USA.

You could think of the USA, as being mainly just 3 large time zones
(the others are for smaller specific areas, that just vary an hour from the nearby larger time zone.)

The 3 main ones:
East, within hours of the Atlantic Ocean coastline;
West, within hours of the Pacific Ocean coastline;
And the middle, another wide North to South swath.

Sun rises first on East coast (EST) so morning begins for us;
then moves across to become morning in the middle of the USA;
And then, toward the West coast, where morning begins later,
and subsequently they would naturally be up later than we along the East;
that is, if we in the East could sleep at night, which some of us struggle to do. ALL around the world.

Here's a link to a world time zone map that might help all of us when we are confused about other areas.

https://www.worldtimezone.com/

A simpler one for the US.

https://www.timetemperature.com/tzus/time_zone.shtml

The media totally discounts and ignores almost everything that happens between the east and west US coasts. The Central and Mountain time zones are referred to as flyover country, just an obstacle to slow down moving between the important places.

Not to throw a wrinkle into this conversation, but, if time is measured in rotations of the earth and because the earth continues to rotate actual 'time' , even in zones, move ahead in time.
Yes, we measure minutes, but in their appropriate 'man made' zones, not in the actual rotation of the earth.
An example could be the western most point (EST) in Oxford, Ohio at 9:00pm looks much different than the eastern most point (EST) in Truro, Massachusetts at 9:00pm, although they are in the same time zone but almost 965 miles apart.

I might be traumatized for a while, but I survived the horror of not having internet for 2 days!!!

Today's skating party cancelled, so I'm home (with Wi-Fi!!!!!

). I spent the entire morning trying to update and reinstall the messenger app on my 8-inch tablet, aaaaand...guess what!! There is no longer a problem!! There also is no longer a messenger app! The tablet completely refused to accept the app. I guess it can't handle the latest operating systems. So, I said bye bye.

Talking of time zones, I must remember to wind the lounge clock.
Sunday again. Unlike my young days when it was "Sunday Best", today I put on my work clothes and got on with making a drinks cabinet. In spite of searching high and low, we couldn't find the style of cabinet that we wanted, so I'm making something that will do for the meantime.
Of course, things that you intend to be temporary have the habit of lasting for years.

Heavy showers and occasional thunder all afternoon. Roast duck for dinner.

I agree, that's fascinating stuff, @Sippican
And it's a beautiful picture on your profile, of your area.
Thanks Kaila!
The picture is during my early morning walk down the beach.
When you watch the sun come up every day, you truly realize that every day is a new day.
Day to clean the slate, put yesterday behind you and begin the ongoing saga of your life, looking forward to all the unknowns that may happen.

KC's not a bad place, just not on everyones destination list. I always wonder when I see a house out in the middle of nowhere how close is the nearest neighbor, hospital, grocery store and how great it must be a night with no lights on.

While we're at it, Hawaii and Arizona don't observe DST.
ol..just when I thought I'd observed all that you folks kindly provided info about time... GiGi..... you come and scramble my brain again...:ROFLMAO: ok...first , please explain to me in what geographical part of the US is Arizona.. and secondly why do they not observe DST... does that mean the States right next to it are one hour behind or ahead ? why do they not

I'm home and even got to leave an hour early this morning. Yay. I texted DD that she could fetch me at 10. No response. Texted again. No response. After the third try, I called. She'd just woken up! Told you she'd be glad to sleep in her own bed🛏️🛏️! She made the most of it.

Took advantage of the "cooler" hour than when I usually get home and watered the flowers. Poor things 🥀🥀🥀 were gasping for water🚰

Tomorrow is a day off, and the early morning hours will be spent in the garden. The weatherdudes lied again. No rain expected before next Friday. I'll be deadheading, weeding and transplanting some plants that I started (late) from seeds.

And laundry. There will be laundry done unless DD isn't using the washer/dryer this afternoon In that case, maybe I can get it started today and skip it tomorrow.

So. Darned. Hot. 🔥 🥵

So, we try to simplify it for you and you have new questions. :ROFLMAO:

Arizona passed a permanent DST bill and a lot of other states want to but haven't yet. When you think about it there's really nothing gained by changing the clock. It just messes up people's internal clocks. I would prefer to stay on standard time but the push is for DST.

I grew up in a place like that and have done a lot of camping in remote places. The sky is wonderful at night. All city people should make a point of spending a night where it's dark and you can see the stars. :love:

Just a minor point about the time zones. We’re in Daylight Saving Time right now, not Standard.
Good catch. It wouldn't be minor if you had a doctor's appointment.

I dunno why they don't observe it. On their eastern state line is New Mexico...Mountain daylight time. On the northern side of their state line are Utah and Colorado, west are Nevada and California.

New Mexico's western state line is on Mountain time. Some of its state line borders Texas. All of Texas isn't on Mountain time.

One little town in Nevada is so close to Utah that they are on Mountain daylight time; the rest of Nevada is on Pacific daylight time.

Colorado is on Mountain daylight time.

South of Arizona is Mexico. I don't know if they observe DST.

Are you confused? Imagine how the people living in places bordering Arizona feel? LOL

lol..well I think people outside of the USA are more confused .... especially those of us living in a country with only one time zone :LOL:
