My goodness @horseless carriage When do you rest? LOL

It's that time again. I'll be alone in the bakery again because TL doesn't come in until 10 or 11, and it's a day off for Sir so I'm off to make croissants and stuff. Lots of croissants and lots of stuff.
After the morning's rain I was in two minds as to whether or not to risk the classic car meeting. It was worth it, the weather cooperated. Later, on the way home, we passed by a former railway station that's now a lovely restaurant, outside a billboard advertised traditional afternoon teas. We just had to stop for an indulgence like that. Our mode of dress and the car seemed to attract quite a bit of attention.

@horseless carriage Do you get all three levels of food just for the two of you. Do you take the rest home. I wouldn’t want to think of it just being partially eaten and then taken back to the kitchen to be redistributed. What would something like this cost?
I wanted to ask if he gets this assortment of food automatically when you order tea?
Or do you have to ask specifically for it?

Afternoon tea is very popular in the UK and you don't have to have a pot of tea. You can order coffee if you prefer. The picture that you see in my last post is straight off the website of the restaurant that we stopped at. Afternoon tea can be whatever you like, such as just a sandwich, or sandwiches followed by a choice of cakes, or even just cakes. One of most popular are scones and cream, it's referred to as a cream tea, like this.

You can order just one or two scones, this is just a promotional photo.
The cost would depend on whatever you ordered and what kind of cafe the place was.
We Brits are still class dominated when it comes to cost creativity.

We are now playing "Hotel". The front desk has received numerous calls about collapsing rooms, the dryness of the "pool" and the deplorable quality of room service ( the pantry is out of Goldfish and chocolate pudding cups and Graham crackers are NOT an acceptable substitution).

Oh dear, the Hotel Meemaw Jujube is going to get a very poor Yelp review, I fear.

The front desk clerk is hiding in the powder room with the door locked; the natives are getting restless.

9:00 and mandatory lights out can't get here fast enough.

😋Oh, my @horseless carriage I wish I'd been there! That tea looks delicious

@Old Salt TL is "transferred lady."

ETA: After lunch I was going to sit outside for a bit. It didn't happen because I sort of fell asleep. Slept hard for almost two hours! Now I'm awake and going out to admire the flowers.
I know what you are referring to when you call your colleague ''Transferred lady''.. but here where I live ..women..who have a bunch of tattoos.. are referred to in a derogatory manner as ''Incredible transferred ladies''...

Someone who was very close to me suffered taunts because of cerebral palsy, I have never forgotten that, such is prejudice. When I was the general manager and later, an employer, those for whom prejudice was a way of life, such as religion, sexuality, skin colour, genetic differences and so forth, all got the same, honest, no prejudice hearing at an interview. But, hand on heart, I was once confronted by the tattooed lady, she didn't get the office job, (the tattoos were to much to present to potential customers,) but I did offer her a driving post. She declined.

Is your house trembling? Sometimes the thunder vibrates a building.
No.... my house is pretty solid... brick built...
...but look here, its made the papers already at 2.30am..it's so bad...

Torrential downpours have kept Brits awake overnight as the country's roads turn into rivers and threaten the morning rush-hour commute.

Sleepless Londoners have taken to social media to share 'insane' videos of thunder followed by flashes of lightning as a storm raged over the capital.

It comes as yellow weather warnings bring Britain's record-breaking heat-wave to a crashing close as more than a month's rain fell in 24 hours on Sunday, turning roads into rivers after the deluge.

And now the Met Office are warning of a 'danger to life' from fast-flowing floodwater shortly after temperatures hit a stunning 28C (82F) in London on Saturday.

The forecaster says there is a chance homes and businesses could be flooded quickly while buildings could be damaged from floodwater, lightening strikes, hail and strong winds.

Spray and sudden flooding could lead to road closures while there is a chance of train and bus cancellations due to flooding and lightening strikes.

Huge surges of electricity have blown sockets off the walls..in some people's homes

I was up until 4 a.m. cleaning the purse and totes so I could put them back on my purse-tote shelves. I also continued getting my outfit ready for today. I realized I had to mend the slip I was wearing since some of the stitches had come out from the new elastic I had put in it.

I went to the mosque my son attends. The young Brother who was the key speaker gave an excellent message. He spoke about
~God and love being the foundation of marriage (in Islam it's said that marriage is half the religion)
~That love and kindness between husband and wife has a positive impact on their children's lives.
~That parents should have open communication with each other, their children and as a family unit.
~ And children should be allowed to have a voice and express their concerns. This does not mean they get to disrespect their parents.
~That sometimes when children don't feel loved in the family environment, they seek other "families" like gangs or perhaps run with the wrong crowd.
~He also talked about how important families are to building and maintaining healthy societies.
~That we as humans should have love in our hearts for our fellow human beings.

The young Sister who introduced him, said that heaven can be right here on earth when marriage is good and the spouses feel safe and at peace with one another, when they support one another and are helpmates. This doesn't mean there won't be hard times and discord sometimes, however. Despite what many non Muslims think and what those who claim to be righteous Muslims do, like seek to oppress their spouses, the above mentioned attributes are what is taught about marriage by Islamic ministers and Imams, as well as written in books about marriage written by scholars. It is advised that husbands and wives should be "blankets" or protection for one another. She also mentioned another Islamic saying I've heard before.."Heaven is at the feet of the mothers".

It was a nice day, "hanging" with my son. After we got home, he fixed our lunch...his bean soup, which I had with a little BBQ sauce and croutons. I put more of the Costco groceries away, got the recyclables ready for him to take out and we put the tote to be stored on the patio in heavy duty plastic. I had started watching TV but fell asleep. I think I slept for about 5 hours.

This morning I need to drive to Brockenhurst to a company that makes car body panels. They specialise in older models that are long out of production making parts much more difficult to obtain. They have made a small panel for my old MG. It was damaged by Mr. Nobody who had probably reversed into the car, seen what he had done and the damaged caused, then drove off.

Whilst at Brockenhurst I can drive the few miles to Milford and collect our tickets for Friday when we shall be going to see Swing Unlimited. The following month, October, The Boogie Bumpers are playing at the same venue, so I shall buy tickets for their gig while I am there. Then I have to drive a short distance to Beaulieu, to collect our tickets for the 100th Birthday Bash of MG Motors. It's all go this morning.

How's the rain Holly? The New Forest, without tall buildings and with wide open spaces, had a dramatic thunder & lightning spectacular last night. Scared my lady witless.

Rain has stopped now... it was the biggest storm right throughout the night that I can remember for a long time. I didn't get to bed until past 5am... I haven't checked the outbuildings yet.. but no damage in this house... poor people in the pictures I posted above tho'...

Gracious good morning boys and girls. I didn't roll outta the sack until 6. What? And I didn't even stay up late.

We're going to have another of those spectacular sunny and cool days today. Yay. Right now it's only 56. It's cool enough that I put on a robe to sit outside with my coffee. Ahhhh.

Gonna get dressed in gardening grubbies and get back to work on that bed of iris as soon as it's light out. Not gonna shower and dress in "real" clothes until the dirty work is done.

DD and DGD want to go out for breakfast to a place that I really don't like, and they want me to go along. I mean, I dislike that place so much that on the very rare occasions when I've been coerced into going there, all I can think of is how soon I get to leave. Aside from high prices and mediocre food, there's nothing inviting or comfortable about the place. High ceiling and very noisy, probably having something to do with the too-high ceiling. The lighting is beyond bright. It's harsh. The decor, if one can call it that, is cold. The walls? Meh. Vast empty expanses with what they feel is a cute do-dad here and there.

So what's the problem? DGD has two doctor appointments with a couple of hours between so they want to fill the space with a visit to their favorite breakfast place then drop me off to get my hair cut. I'd mentioned a couple of days ago that I wanted to get my hair cut, and my cutter only works Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Haircut takes 15 minutes, max, so they can't drop me off, go to breakfast, pick me up. By the time DGD's second doc appt is done, my cutter will be off until next Saturday. Oh. DGD doesn't drive. DD is Uber.

The hair. It needs to be colored again, but that doesn't get done until after the hair cut. The haircut that probably isn't going to happen today.

I swear, it would make my life simpler to just go buy another car. Sigh.Yeah. Except for the part about how I can't drive in the dark because I have night blindness so couldn't even drive myself to work.

However it works out, I'm going to decline, with polite thanks, the invitation to breakfast. It's a day off, and I'm not going to spend an hour or more sitting around in a restaurant that I don't like. So there.

Rant over. Yanno, until the next one :ROFLMAO:

This morning I am taking Rabbit's cage apart and do a thorough cleaning. New flooring (cardboard and water proof stuff) that goes underneath the newspaper and hay (bedding). The bedding I change daily but not the flooring. Wash it all done including the tray underneath the cage. Vacuum and clean the vinyl mats that are under the whole cage. A big job and I do it about every 3 months or so. When I have the energy for it.

Then I am going to go grocery shopping in the afternoon. Walmart.

Good morning! Foggy here today. We used to have a goofy friend who would say "it's so foggy that I can't hear you!"

We had a great time at my Mom's church picnic yesterday! The weather was perfect, yet there was plenty of shade for Dio. They had live music...

So far, I'm not sure what I'll be doing today.

@Pepper those kitties are adorable ❤️

@jujube how late did the hotel stay open? Hope the room service and condition of the pool improved😉

The hotel closed promptly at bedtime. Just like AirBNB, the guests were required to help clean up, since they did not pay a cleaning charge deposit. Room service continued for some time after bedtime....."I'M THIRSTY!!! ME, TOO!!!" The Bell Captain also had to provide stories and backrubs.

I miss a rollicking thunder and lightning storm. They are a rarity here - less often than once a year.

Edited to add: I didn't realize that the storm caused so much damage. I hope all are ok and that your outbuildings didn't suffer any damage.
fortunately the outbuildings didn't seem to have suffered any damage.. I always ensure also that in the sheds and barn the electricity outlets all have their plugs pulled out ... after every time I use them with the exception obviously of the freezers..

In the media today there seems to have been floods everywhere around the country.. this is one advantage of living on top of a hill I'm always grateful for
