What do you have to do to go to Prison for life ..serial killer of 24 released from prison

What!? That is sooo messed up! 😩

Women or men with custody of their kids shouldn't even try dating anyone if they have a child under the age of 16. Too many sickos out there.

It's crazy. I found that out after the school shooting in Texas where the man killed 19 kids while the police stood right outside the door waiting for someone to tell them to go in. 😱:mad: I felt like all of those cops should have been held accountable. Then they tried to arrest one mother who went in that school and got her two kids out herself. Crazy! Society is devolving, we're going backwards and people are getting dumber.
yes I remember that well, beyond any kind of understanding..

They have been taken out of service and charged with Neglect of Duty and a couple other things, and so were their senior officers. But their cases haven't gone to court yet. Should be interesting.

Joking aside, you get life in prison only if you're sentenced to life without parole. In the US, a serial killer and sometimes rapists and offenders of children gets that sentence unless there's a mitigating circumstance such as mental illness or somehow being forced to commit the crimes or the convicted person is just a kid.

How can they be charged with "Neglect of Duty " when they in-fact have no duty to protect ?

I can see where they might be charged with insubordination, if they were ordered to go in and refused but .... were they ? And refusing to do so would be an on job issue ... not a criminal issue ......... jmo

They weren't ordered to enter. The reason for the charge (and I could be wrong, but I think it's NofD) is that defenseless people were in clear and imminent danger. This is why their senior officer/officer in charge was charged as well. Witnesses said he ordered officers to "stand down."

More people end dead from NOT having the death penalty. I would rather they kill one than let that one go free to kill 5 more innocent victims. I wish the death penalty didn't have to exist but I wish murderers didn't exist. Life in prison is not life in prison unfortunately.
I think the answer to this is not to bring back the death penalty but bring back, "life without parole."

We, as older people, should get together and tell the courts that just because we're old doesn't mean we can't kill and assault. I hear detectives on Dateline saying, "a woman couldn't do this," or "this man couldn't have done it because he's ill or walks with a cane." Well I'm, old, a woman, and walk with a cane, but I can still do whatever I want to when the desire is there.

Yesterday, I drove my dog to the vet, left my cane in the car and carried her into the office, fending off all the big dogs in the waiting room who wanted me to put her down so they could play with her. I'm sure I could put anti-freeze in my husband's Dr. Pepper, like all those other wives.:sneaky:

yes I agree with everything you say...except the life without parole. Yes indeed have it still, but it costs a fortune for the Tax payer to keep these people in prison for the rest of their lives.

I am of the belief that appeals should be held much quicker than they are now.. so maybe within 2 years.. and there should be a maximum of 2.. and if they fail there should be no more..

I feel in the instances where there is no possible doubt that the accused committed the heinous crime.. there should be no path to appeals, and a Death sentence should be carried out immediately after sentencing as they do in other countries.

There is a cut-off point for appeals, the problem is, they allow too many types of appeals so it takes forever to get them all done. But I do agree with you, especially that last part.

I thought they did. Isn't protection the idea of the concept of policing?
That is the illusion we're expected to believe. One reason is to make uninformed people think of police officers as heroes. It works - for most.
Here, all the police cars have "Protect And Serve" displayed on them.

The purpose of charging them was to pacify an outraged public. It will be forgotten after some time & nothing will happen to the do-nothing officers. And the mindsets of the ignorant will return to "Police Officers Are Our Heroes."
Well, except for the parents of the victims...............

LOL - it won't work anymore. After several wives used antifreeze to murder their husbands, they added a chemical to it to make it taste bitter so it will be detected by the intended victim.
"Honey, I made you some lime Jello."
"Thanks, dear. It's delicious."
"Of course. I'd do anything for you; you mean the world to me."

LOL Thanks for the heads up, Win.

I don't think so. The department is angry, too. They want this huge misstep punished. It's reflecting very badly on their reputation. But even then, and I agree with you on this point, it'll be a very long time and a tough job to get to the "Police Officers Are Our Heroes" level in their city.

The problem is that police are protected by Federal Law & immune from any prosecution for doing nothing to protect anyone.
You may recall during the 1992 Los Angeles riots that followed the acquittal of the 4 officers who pounded on Rodney King.
When people were pulled from their vehicles & beaten by mobs, police officers LEFT the area, which led to that trucker (Reginald Denny) being beaten almost to death & left with permanent brain damage. People complained about the police & called them "Cowards" & leaving the scene, but they also weren't charged because their actions were protected under federal law.
