I learned something new from my physical therapist. I was trying to explain to her that the difficulty I have with some movements is that I have no sensation in that area. If I were to paint a picture of my body, there would be big holes. Parts of my feet and my back would be missing.
She explained to me that our brains hold a map of our bodies, but they are distorted. Our lips would be huge because we use them so much, but the muscles we don't use will be very small in our brain's map.
As I understand this, we need to intentionally communicate with our brains. We need to make the best movement we can, and trust that if we do this enough times, that area in our brain will start to grow, and as it does, we will have a stronger sensation in that area. As our muscle grows, so does our brain map grow, and nerve signals can improve.
Also, move slowly and pay attention to which muscle is getting worked out. Our bodies love to take the easy way, and if a muscle is weak, it will use a different one. Then you can exercise for a year and not get the desired result.
I have a lot of work to do and hope this will pay off. I will know in 3 weeks, when I see my therapist again, if I have improved or not.

Her observation is essential because I could still be doing the movement wrong and think I am doing better when I am not.
