What kind of books/movies/stories do you not like?

I do not care for suspense or anything with killing in it. No science fiction, though in the past I liked space related ones like Star Wars, Stargate & Star Trek. My tastes have changed. I used to like drama but now not so much. I like historical, some comedy and romance. But I don't really watch many new movies, usually the old ones.

I’m not a fan of romantic films although I’ve stomached a fair number of them to pacify significant others. I equally don’t like movies with gratuitous violence, gore, wanton destruction, and expletive-laden dialogue. I differentiate true horror from “slasher” or gross-out movies, and enjoy intelligent horror, paranormal, and sci fy offerings…🛸🙀

One of the reviewers for Time Magazine wrote at the time that the Titanic would sink like a stone at the box office.

My taste is plebeian and, except for the late Roger Ebert, I don't trust critics. They tend to move in a rarified atmosphere, supported by sychophants who like being part of an exclusive in-crowd. Am I being cynical?

I liked the movie, along with millions of others.

"The Piano". It is full of clichés. The mute woman, who isn't mute, but chooses not to speak. And so on, and so on.
I'll not tell the story in detail, since it's just too ridiculous. If you'd like to read it:

In my opinion the movie is much overrated and so is the director Jane Campion.
I'm anticipating much protest. Feel free to comment!
I never liked the movie "The Piano". I found it very hard to understand, I kept asking my friend "What's happening". I lost interest in the first half hour. I think the photography was good though.
rated it: 2/10.

Romantic Comedy Movies are a turn off. There's Something About Mary
Musicals. West Side Story
Romance. La La Land - Ghost
Slasher. Prom Night
Gangster. The Warriors - The God Father
Martial Arts. Enter the Dragon

I used to like horror movies but many have gotten too gory, so I don't like those. I do not like horror movies about dolls and puppets either. I don't like movies about war, except the first one I saw in the movies...Platoon, which I thought was good. Found out a couple of decades later that one of the actors, Keith David is my cousin. I also can't stand stupid movies...about stoners, silly antics, etc.

I rarely go to the theater anymore and maybe that's a good thing. So many of the movies today have way too much cursing, especially overuse of the F and MF words. I can't stand it ! If I start watching one on T.V., I don't care how acclaimed it is, I stop watching. I also don't like those with gratuitous sex and violence.

Hate-- along with other mentioned :
Hallmark Channel movies
Movies that rely on extended, multiple battles/car chases/sword fights (the fast-forward button get a work out)

I *love* bitingly witty movies, such as "An Ideal Husband"

I'm a peace loving sort of guy, so I don't like violence and I don't like horror because it's manufactured just to scare the briefs right from you. Actually, I like a mystery and I like romance. I do like romance; you can keep your violence. Enough of violence in the news. I don't need it in the movies.

I'll take Die Hard in all venues, or aliens/robots duking it out. Educational Sci-fi like "Contact" (but the crazy preacher part didn't help) "Murder by Death" was funny, as was "Young Frankenstein"

Nearly all Godzilla movies, some were too drawn out, and the Godzilla 3-D was a huge waste of money. "The Gods must be crazy" was funny as they did have the bumbling guy in love with good looking female.

But if I can (in a way) put myself into a movie, story, it does tend to garner more interest from me.

Any Louis L'Amour book, Tom Clancy and Dick Francis (former steeplechase jockey)

Romance novels, not even if I was paid per word.

I don't like stupid comedy, no slapstick. Not a big fan of romances. At this age I enjoy stories that have an older person involved. The British seem to be better at that than we are. I like some sci-fi and horror. The Walking Dead was a favorite for a while but it dragged on a little too long. Sometimes I want thought provoking and sometimes I just want mindless entertainment.

With all the streaming services available now, they seem to be cranking out garbage of any genre at high speed.

I detest Hallmark/romance movies. Broke my rule and watched one because of the actors. It was nauseating.

No sci fi or Marvel movies for me either.

I don't like most comedies as they seem sophomoric. ( ***** jokes/showing boobies/toilet humor)
The writers not only go for the easy humor they're also lazy for not even trying to think up original material
Then again Hollywood copies success so if one movie makes money we're stuck with a handful of similar films over the next few years until the next goofy comedy makes money
And I don't like TV shows with laugh tracks. Like they think I don't know what's funny. If it's funny i'll laugh
Plus if TV "needs" a laugh track how come there's no laugh tracks in the movies in the theaters?
Lets take a step further--- if we need a laugh track for TV shows why aren't there screams for thrillers? Every time someone gets shot why isn't there a fake scream in the soundtrack? If I don't know when to laugh for a comedy what if i don't know when to scream during a murder?
Hollywood, while entertaining sometimes, can be flat out strange

I'm going to amend my comment about comedies and state that there are a couple I really like.

'Monty Python and the Holy Grail' is one I've watched so many times I know almost every line in the Movie
and never fail to smile or laugh at almost every scene.

Another is 'Shaun of the Dead'.
Might be a pattern here...
Both movies are brilliant! I loved Simon Pegg in the latter! (y):)
