What nationality are you?

Our ancestors all came from someplace else. Even the indigenous peoples of the Americas, Australia, and the islands of the world hopped of a boat, or trekked in from someplace else. What nationality are you? Do you think of yourself as "American", "British", or "French"? My ancestors came down to the USA from Quebec Province, Canada; so I think of myself as of "French Canadian" decent. I did vacation in the UK, and France, There, people knew I was an "American". We would walk into a pub and they instantly knew we were "Merkins". How? I never thought "American" was a nationality, like the Irish ,Italians, etc. DUH!
So, what nationality are you?

American. When I was living in Europe I sometimes missed Americans very much. I'd go out and we are easy to spot as we behave louder and somewhat confused. I'd make their acquaintance and it felt good.

We're of Armenian descent.
My grandfather came over from Armenia thru Ellis Island first, then went back and got my grandmother.
Their first child was born in Lowell, Massachusetts. Then they came to California to start their business.......and more.

What's so neat, is that a friend of ours gave me the manifest w/my grandfather's signature on it that he had to provide to go thru Ellis Island.

We are a nation of mongrels, bad connotations and all, but there it is.
We can state one or two nations that our ancestor were from but were vague.
That does not make us less; nations are lines on a map,

It doesn't matter where were from, it matters what see are
See post # 11
Everybody bleeds, we bled American-were Americans!

Ancestors from Father's side came from Holland in 1810. Just in time for the War of 1812, where they were with Andrew Jackson. My mother's people came from Wales, one married a Choctaw about 200 years ago. I am the fifth generation Van_____ born in Mississippi. I pledge allegiance to our great Flag, the Stars and Stripes each morning. God Bless America

Patriotic Canadian all the way.

Grandmother was born in British Columbia and grew up in Yokohama .. same as my mother. Father was born in B.C. and spent his childhood in Japan. Dad was a proud Canadian and the first JC to sign up to join the war effort overseas. His name is in a book about JC's.

23andMe says I'm 3% Korean. I'm sure that's common with Asian ancestry. Apparently I have many 3rd/4th cousins that have Chinese (and other) surnames. No surprise there.

Anyway, like I said, I'm a true Canuck šŸšŸ‡ØšŸ‡¦

I think of myself as being of US nationality, but I am comprised many different nationalities from my ancestors. I'm 1/4 Canadian because my grandfather was born there, but it's the ones prior to that which interest me. We didn't really talk about my ancestors growing up and didn't really follow any particular national traditions. As a result I didn't know a lot about my roots until I started working on my genealogy.

I was surprised when 23 and me showed me that I had more DNA from the British Isles than I expected and it is my dominant percentage of DNA. After working on my genealogy I started to find out where the DNA from the British Isles was coming from.
