I have in my lifetime (86 years), seen a transformation from basic living conditions; hard physical work, and very few luxuries; to the modern world of today where instead of farming with teams of horses, farmers now have huge multi-row equipment that is either self propelled or pulled by unimaginably huge tractors. A world where mama washed clothes in a gas engine powered washing machine (Maytag) and hung the clothes on a wire clothes line to dry. Compare that to washers and dryers of today. Meals were cooked on a wood or corn cob burning stove and lawns were mowed with a push reel type mower.
We had no electricity. Light came from a large gasoline mantle type lamp or coal oil (kerosene) lamps (similar to Coleman mantle lamps). Our music came from a wind up Victrola 78 RPM record player some people had a radio - we didn't. I could go on and on about living conditions in my childhood, but I hope you get the point that modern, every day life that we take for granted, is completely different from 75 or 85 years ago. If someone could have told us about the life style we have today, we would not have believed it. Think back a hundred years before that and the contrast is even greater.
Now think ahead a hundred years. What do you think the life style will be? Let your imagination loose; think of a few possibilities, both good and bad that might exist then. Will we dress differently? How about transportation for average people? What will our cities be like? How will we communicate and what will we do for entertainment?
Please share your thoughts on any aspect of human life and conditions 75 or 100 years from now. Don't worry if your thoughts might seem too unreal, because TV and modern aircraft would have been a complete fantasy to people of Colonial days. All comments on any aspect of future life style and conditions are welcome and we will find them interesting. Thanks
