What will lfe be like 100 years from now?

I have in my lifetime (86 years), seen a transformation from basic living conditions; hard physical work, and very few luxuries; to the modern world of today where instead of farming with teams of horses, farmers now have huge multi-row equipment that is either self propelled or pulled by unimaginably huge tractors. A world where mama washed clothes in a gas engine powered washing machine (Maytag) and hung the clothes on a wire clothes line to dry. Compare that to washers and dryers of today. Meals were cooked on a wood or corn cob burning stove and lawns were mowed with a push reel type mower.

We had no electricity. Light came from a large gasoline mantle type lamp or coal oil (kerosene) lamps (similar to Coleman mantle lamps). Our music came from a wind up Victrola 78 RPM record player some people had a radio - we didn't. I could go on and on about living conditions in my childhood, but I hope you get the point that modern, every day life that we take for granted, is completely different from 75 or 85 years ago. If someone could have told us about the life style we have today, we would not have believed it. Think back a hundred years before that and the contrast is even greater.

Now think ahead a hundred years. What do you think the life style will be? Let your imagination loose; think of a few possibilities, both good and bad that might exist then. Will we dress differently? How about transportation for average people? What will our cities be like? How will we communicate and what will we do for entertainment?

Please share your thoughts on any aspect of human life and conditions 75 or 100 years from now. Don't worry if your thoughts might seem too unreal, because TV and modern aircraft would have been a complete fantasy to people of Colonial days. All comments on any aspect of future life style and conditions are welcome and we will find them interesting. Thanks

I don't think it will be that different. The only real difference between now and 50 years ago is the Internet/wireless revolution, which, admittedly, is a big thing.

We'll be driving electric cars (or ride around in automatically driven cars). I don't see that much changing otherwise.

Our surroundings may change but the basic issues that we have faced since the beginning of time will still be with us.

I wouldn't dare try to predict but just for fun, read the book Station Eleven by Emily S. J. Mandal. It's fiction, very readable, published and released in 2014 and future HBO miniseries. It might help the stage for a 2120.

Sorry, I'm not trying to hijack your thread. I'm very anxious to learn what thoughts fellow members have on the future even if I, at 87, don't expect to see a lot of it.

I'm both concerned about and excited by the prospect of what life could be like in 100 years. Based on the reaction of many of the people in our country to Covid-19 I'm far more concerned than excited.

I think that over the next 100 years many people will die and be displaced by the effects of global warming. I think many of those deaths will come from starvation because of the loss of agricultural land and the widespread death of ocean species. I think that there will also be many deaths as those in poverty are driven further into poverty and hopelessness because reduced resources and opportunities. I also think that the amount of safe, clean, fresh water will also be reduced and some of the deaths will come from not having safe drinking water. I also think that there will be more heat related deaths and severe weather related deaths.

I'm wondering if any human being will be alive a 100yrs from now. With the conditions going around today if anyone survives it would surprise me. If we do then I'll bet we'll have cars that can fly ,woman will finally have equal rights and children will have unbeliveable electronic devices.

In 100 years, all energy will be clean and renewable. We'll all be driving electric vehicles, which will be self-driving. The environment will be much cleaner as a result.

Food will be manufactured in factories, so there won't be any need for farms and ranches.

That's just off the top of my head. I'll need to think about it some more. :)

I'm convinced at the rate this world is going, there won't a world in 100 years, and if there is, I'm glad I won't be around to endure it.

What a disgrace it is... fracking, which is encouraging earthquakes, untold numbers of sea-life dying account the pollution and filth big industry is casting, landfill space at a premium, no more land for cemeteries, water woes around the world, food shortages in countries, extreme forest fires, flooding, the acute differential between the filthy dirty rich as compared to the poor (middle class today has all but evaporated away), and the list goes on.

I think people are fools to think that we can turn this world around and clean it up through carbon taxing, banning plastic straws, plastic bags, and other nauseating ideas our world leaders dream-up and concoct, not to mention the disposable mentality that plagues society today.

Mankind doesn't deserve to see this planet alive and well in 100 years.

Physics and metaphysics will merge together. EXTRAORDINARY things, once thought supernormal, will be in acuality. Science will blend with technology to read not only minds and thoughts, but feelings from the soul. From the light emanation from each individual, anyone, through the extreme technology, can read one's character and intent.
Robotics will be heavily used in space exploration.
Ah, My thoughts wander to truths I must not say.

Are you speaking of after the third World War?
China and Russia will ally fighting against the USA.
This will be devestating but will not last long.
The government will have no money to hold up to the people.
I could go on about the changes and devestation but why?

You see, The lowly thoughts in the mind of man is what CREATES THIS!
Should man lift the quality of thought in the mind, these physical occurences could dramatically change.
Focused THOUGHT interferes with future events already in planning in men's minds.

The movement to a higher level of thought in the minds of man is what will fortell the future happenings of the world.
I should add: IMO

Some changes but not all to many paragraphs are ignored.

A hundred years from now the population will be far less. On all continents people will move closer to the equator since the fuels need to generate heat & electricity will be depleted. Solar, wind & water (hydro) will be the main sources. Depending on legal mandates coal may still be used.

Electric vehicles for use by the general population won't happen. The ability to manufacture batteries & vehicles will be limited due to resource shortage. Manufacture of junk food & fast food places will have been phased out for more than 20 years. Community gardens & home grown veggies will be the norm. Population control will be the norm.

A plus will be humans will be tolerant of each other in order to survive.

There are 2 things of major magnitude that will determine the future of humanity.....Climate Change and Overpopulation.

There have been periods of high heat/extreme cold in prehistoric times, but the populations were so low that the people probably just folded their tents and migrated North or South, as needed. That is No Longer possible. With over 7 billion now on the planet, there is NO liveable places for huge numbers of people to migrate to...which aren't already overcrowded. Plus, there are trillions of dollars of property that would be abandoned, and few would be willing or able to leave all that behind. As the temperatures climb, and the oceans rise, millions currently living in low lying areas will have no choice but to move....and this will create some major problems.

And then...there is Overpopulation. Automation, robotics, and AI are making human labor more obsolete with every passing year. We are currently at 7.3 billion, with 9 billion expected by 2050, and 11 or 12 billion by the year 2100. More and more will be living in poverty as the years pass, and society will be divided between the Haves and Have Nots....and the numbers of those having to scrounge for their next meal will increase drastically. Civil unrest will increase to levels never before seen, and eventually there be one more global war...not between nations, but between Neighborhoods.

Somewhere around the latter couple of decades of this century, there will be global conflicts between these Haves and Have Nots, and it will basically come down to whether the Haves run out of bullets before the Have Nots run out of bodies....and the global populations will be reduced by half.

If the Haves win, the survivors will begin to unite under a single language and rule, and mankind will begin to reach for the stars. If the Have Nots win, humanity will revert back to the Dark ages. My "Crystal Ball" puts this "tipping point" somewhere around the year 2080.

I like to be positive, I won't be here in a hundred years. That is one I am positive about.
Another is that things have to change and I see a few that are working on that.
Mother nature has shown us how she can recover, but not if we don't help. The weather changes should be a warning to us.
Thinking positive again, maybe this runway tech we are developing can work for us..

A hundred years from now? OMG, I'll be an ANCESTER.
Things will be very much like today, as it was for the last 10,000 years. We'll eat, sleep, have kids, have problems, have good times. I think we will have a virtual other self. There will be a you with a body, and a virtual you. The virtual you will have the authority to bills, order things , see to your needs, etc., and act on your behalf. I think we will have a much more pampered life, because of this virtual self. Most of the jobs will be in all forms of research, medicine and with generating "content". The arts will be very important.
