What's for dinner ( or lunch )

We've been through this before and I appreciate your concern, as well as perhaps benefiting others that may not be aware of mercury poisoning in fish. While specific typically larger sword may indeed have higher mercury levels, many smaller fish have little or none. Judging by the size of the loins we don't get large, older fish here in our market so these younger fish haven't accumulated much if any mercury. The mercury level also depends on where the swordfish or other other mercury bearing fish originate. With all that said I believe the warning is a blanket judgement of the entire species distributed worldwide because a few, or some fish may have high levels of mercury is not warranted.

The only person I've known w mercury poisoning was my fish monger, who obviously consumed vast quantities of fish.

Seeing the prices of fish lately, I rarely eat it. Maybe 6-8 times a year? And I love most fish.
Agree with @againstthegrain pretty much.

There is a elevated concern around the Med in Spain, Portugal, etc. Countries where the population eat vast quantities of seafoods, and China which has rivers that dump some mercury into the ocean, but China is beginning to take measures (they say). I won't eat farmed fish or any fish from around China. Or Mexico, as Mexico's offshore fish are found to have one of the higher rates of mercury contamination.

Most of the warnings seem more specific to young children, babies and pregnant women - young "developing" brains, breastfeeding mothers.

There have been studies showing higher levels of mercury in some Alzheimer's brains. But the studies were said to have been not large enough nor were they exactly sure if the source of the mercury; is it from exposure in the environment, fish specific, or from earlier times in our recent history, before mercury poisoning was considered and people just didn't know.

How many here have played with a liquid bubble of mercury - way back when, as when a thermometer broke?

yes but we didn't eat it several times a month ...but if people wish to believe they won't come to harm by eating fish with high levels of mercury who am I to care !🤷‍♀️ fill your boots

I’m eating a bowl of chicken noodle soup right now. I make lots of soups and stock my freezer for days when I don’t want to cook.
I do the same..I batch cook minced beef , with a variety of veggies, potatoes, and sausages... ..usually makes enough for about 7 or 8 meals.. I batch cook Bacon & lentil soup..which also has a variety of veggies and pulses in as well.. the current one in the freeer also has Rice noodles in it...I also bake Bacon & Egg flans.. and freeze those for days when I don't want to cook..

Didn't have much of an appetite last night so I munched on a few handfuls of (lower-sodium, dairy-free) Chex Mix that I'd made for the holidays. Was just enough.

I gained a couple of pounds during the holidays and am working on that. One down, one to go.
