Who all had had the Shingles vaccine?

I haven't had it yet. My doctor wrote me a prescription for it about five years ago but my insurance wouldn't cover it, therefore I didn't get it. Since then, I hear Medicare B pays for it. I keep forgetting to go get it, but I need to. I've seen too many people broke out in Shingles and they are absolutely miserable. I need to put that on my "to do" list.

I was supposed to have it on the 16th of this month... but the appt was a double one with a pneumonia Vax as well.. and due on the day before my weekly Physio appt , and I'd heard they make you feel a bit poorly for a while, and i didn't want to miss my Physiotherapy on my injured arm and hand... so i cancelled them both, and I'll make them again for a later date once all my physio treatment is over..

I had the original single vaccine shot in 2016
At 62 years old.

Then the two parted Shingles vaccine in
2022 when I was 67 years old .

For me and not sure why of course, these
Vaccines were the most painful with very
sore arms, bad swelling at the injection
site and feeling pitiful for several days.

I reached around to my back to feel this sore spot developing. I. Showed Misa, she said it was probably shingles. When I got to the Doc she said yep it's shingles. Because I am being treated for pain for my neuropathy with1800mg Gabapentin she said the pain is usually very bad, but because I was medicated for pain, I barely felt it. I got the shot afterwards. :)

Mama and I had our first dose April 14, 2023 and the second July 14, 2023....the pharmacist told us that you can't get the second dose any sooner than sixty days after the first dose but both doses have to be taken within six months.

Medicare would not cover any of the four doses ($216.54 per dose) but our Humana 'D' supplement covered all four doses 100%.

That's good that you barely felt it. I've had patients crying in agony because it hurt so bad. I've got to quit postponing getting my shot.

When the single was the only option, I had that. When Shingrix came out with much better protection, I had those. My arm was sore, though not great pain. None of these were free at the time.

My good friend suffered through 3 bouts of shingles. It was agony.

Some events are horror stories. Conan O’Brien has talked about his ocular shingles. Makes me shutter. A friend kept me informed on her friend who had the same. A nightmare.

One other friend’s mother had a bad case - one was ******l that also became rectal. That lady has never been the same.

I received mine a few years ago from the urging of a friend who went through it said it is terrible. I don't know how long it's good for but I will ask my doctor next month. This is a good reminder. Thanks.
