Why are Scientists so Eager to Find Extraterrestrials?

As already stated...curiousity. We want to explore...we want to know everything. If we do meet alien life...I hope they are superior to earthlings. We need teaching a lesson...it would do us good to realise that we are not the wonderful beings we think we are.

The truth of course, is out there...Does no-one read the Bible these days? I think the 'Sons of Heaven' were extra-terrestrials.

I read the Bible every day. Check out Edgar Cayce...he was the most proven accurate psychic in the world when it came to well "things that could be proven", and he talked about the Sons of God and the Daughter's of Men".

Hey, RR, remember that older tv series where the plane pilot in Alaska's husband died when he got hit by "space junk"? Northern Exposure.

I was a big fan of that series. I remember the scene with the guy's funeral, where they buried him, part of the plane, and the space junk embedded in it.
And all the people at the funeral thought it was funny.

I still miss that series.

The meaning of UFO is simply "Unidentified Flying Object." Doesn't mean it's extraterrestrial, just that it's unidentified.

Hypo, why does the universe have to have a "purpose?" Or at least, a purpose in human terms? There could be purposes beyond purposes, that we can't even begin to imagine.

Correct, but just because we can't see something does not mean it is not there.

Probably notg in OUR immediate galaxy. But maybe somewhere else. Who knows. I am no scientist, and thus no expert. My feeling is, who does it really hurt to think there is life somewhere. I find it interesting that people only see "life" as able to exist in earth-like conditions. Earth supports us. But maybe on other galaxies there are other life forms.
It is interesting that in so many of the Sci Fy movies and shows, other life forms speak English (or some other language of humans).

Carl Sagan once said "If there is no life out there, it would be an awful waste of space"

I've always believed in the possibility of others being in our universe . I just doubt some of the so called sightings, and really doubt these abductions. No offence to anyone here if it applies.

Thats hinting at a Godly view...which I fully support.

I agree 100%....The Bible consists of many books that contain parables, It is a history book that contains the word of God. The bible mentions Jesus was carried up to heaven.( Luke Chapter 24} This is just one passage, but many more are in the Bible if you understand what you are reading. Then when Jonah spent three days in the belly of a whale, sounds like a alien space ship to me! That is what I believe, but I can't prove it and so far science has not convinced me other wise, but I have an open mind...Every population on earth have a basic belief, Christianity, Buddhism, Islam, Judaism to name a few and all beliefs have the same basic story.

I was abducted, Sweetie abducted me, took me home with her and never let me go. lol

Sunny... not to get off topiic, but wonder why its not available any more on cable channels. You'd think they'd want to get some residuals on it. The casting on that program was "spot on".

What about the "spaceships of Ezekiel":https://www.bibliotecapleyades.net/sitchin/spaceships_ezekiel.htm

What does it mean if there is life out in space? It means that we may live in a fertile universe, and there are other places, which man could possibly live. While it will be a long time from now, the earth no longer is habitable; we'll either die out, or have to move on. If we are not alone, how will that impact our religions? Will aliens consider us as friends, or as prey? Will alien contact bring us amazing new technologies, or war?

The various myths and legends from around the world speak of aliens from other planets. The Ancient Egyptians revered cats because visitors from the planet Sirius resembled felines. The reason that the pharoahs and the Mayans practised incest was because the first rulers of their civilisations were 'Gods' ie. from outer space, and they wanted to keep the bloodline pure.

Apologies for getting back to Northern Exposure again. I really wish they would broadcast it again; no idea why they don't. I'd love to watch it again!

At the time they were making that series, we lived in WA state, not too far from the town (Roslyn) where the show was filmed. We went several times and watched them filming it, met many of the cast, who were a lovely, very friendly bunch of people, and it was the one time in my life I actually belonged to a fan club. We called ourselves the Mooseketeers, after the moose you see wandering around the town in the opening credits, and had an annual reunion when we all went to visit Roslyn and have dinner at the Brick. When the show closed, we all went to the auction of costumes, props, etc. and bought stuff. I still have a little statue of an elk from Maurice Minnefield's den on my dresser, with necklaces hanging from the antlers.

Great memories!

Many old painting show disc shape flying machines in painting, (painting are a visual record of history) so that is proof to me that aliens have always been here watching us and we will meet them when they want. My worry today is that there is enough nuclear bombs on earth to wipe out all civilization on earth and the aliens will say ''I told you so,'' on their was back to constellation Mensa, which is 59 light years away. (about 354 trillion miles..I think)

Now ask yourself this. Your cruising through the Milky Way...You have a look to see what the nice looking planet is all about.
Now be honest, would you say hello to people are killing each other off each day? Polluting our own drinking water. Poisoning the air?
Nope I would just keep motoring.
