World’s largest cruise ship labeled ‘monstrosity’ ahead of maiden voyage

I think everybody should travel on cruise ships all the time. They’re fun, full of new friends, have lots to eat, visit many places, are good value for the money, and you only have to unpack and pack up once, not every few nights. Besides, they don‘t have curmedgeons like me on them.

So cruise away, everybody! Send me a postcard if you must.
Are you trying to get rid of us, Bookswood? <suspicious frown>

Royal Caribbean is going to be making even more money when Icon of the Seas debuts in January. It's incredible how popular the ships and only 10% of the traveling public go on a cruise.

"Royal Caribbean Cruises revenue for the quarter ending June 30, 2023 was $3.523 billion, a 61.29% increase year-over-year. Royal Caribbean Cruises revenue for the twelve months ending June 30, 2023 was $12.005 billion, a 156.37% increase year-over-year."

A not so astounding figure if you take Covid into account. Part of 2020 was a wash-out, all of 2021 and a large part of 2022.

It's sorta like field of dreams though.....they keep building them bigger and bigger and people continue to buy the trips and come back for more. Since I get seasick to beat the band this is one joy I'll just have to miss.

...and that's just one ship... the oceans at any one time are packed with Cruise ships...
I remember being in Playa del Carmen and I looked toward the island of Cozumal. I saw 3 monster cruise ships around the island. Fortunately, I decided not to take the ferry there.

Last year I was in Skagway, Alaska. I wasn't lonely because there were 4 cruise ships in the harbour. What a joke!

The media keeps showing these silly photos of a lonely woman in a bikini laying in a hummock strung between 2 palm trees. In the distance is a huge cruise ship but there are absolutely no people around. Just her! Oh, Ya! Got love advertising?????
