The world's safest cities for 2019, according to SCI:
1. Tokyo, Japan
2. Singapore
3. Osaka, Japan
4. Amsterdam, the Netherlands
5. Sydney, Australia
6. Toronto, Canada
7. Washington DC, US
= 8. Copenhagen, Denmark
= 8. Seoul, South Korea
10. Melbourne, Australia

I'm not sure about Melbourne and Sydney. There are more and more incidents happening in Australia.

The cities are judged on four criteria - digital security, health security, infrastructure and personal safety.

On the flip side, most rankings of the Most Dangerous cities place cities in South and Central America among the MOST dangerous....Probably due to the influence of the drug cartels. I'm kind of surprised that cities in the US, such as Baltimore, Chicago, and St. Louis don't rank real high on those lists.

Up until the last 15 or so years, D.C. would have never made this list. D.C. has undergone somewhat of a revitalization with crime actually decreasing off its highs. I used to like going down to D.C. (only a 2-hour Drive), but was always super careful while walking the streets, especially on the east side. There are some really beautiful areas (Georgetown) that the rich live in.

That surprised me too.

Living in a suburb of Washington, DC, I am surprised to see that city on the "safest" list. Every day the paper has multiple items about people getting shot.
